Atlantic wins Nike Indoor
BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA - Florida distance running has long been thought of as a step below states such as New York and California; perhaps that reputation is begining to change. Four boys from Delray Beach Atlantic illustrated just what down south harriers can do, clocking a meet record 10:15.89 DMR victory in the 2000 Nike Indoor Championship held in Bloomington, Indiana on Satrurday.
The team was paced by Sean Jefferson (3:06.6) in the 1200m, Drew Thomas (56.7) in the 400m, Ken Schappert (1:59.8) in the 800m, and John Jefferson (4:12.8) in the 1600m. The record setting time blew away 2nd place JFK High School from Bellmore, NY by over 15 seconds. JFK rolled to a time of 10:31.18. The national record in the event is 9:59.94, set only a day earlier by a team from Gloucester, MA.
