Sayyeau Says Yes To Embry Riddle

Cocoa Beach senior Cory Sayyeau has been one of the top distance runners on the Space Coast. As a junior he placed 10th at the 2A Cross Country Finals. Recently, he has announced where he will run for the next four years.

What has the recruiting process been like for you?

It wasn't to much of a rush for me really. I wasn't in a rush to sign anywhere. I just wanted to pick the school that I really wanted to go to to, major in, and be happy with.

Where else were you considering?

It was between Embry-Riddle and Purdue. Both schools really well known for there majors in Air Traffic Management.

Why did you ultimately choose Embry-Riddle?

I chose Embry-Riddle because it was the best place academically where I could really pursue something I wanted to do. Also being able to join the cross country and track  team and try and contribute in anyway was just another great thing to add about joining.

How did you fit in with the team and coaching staff?

Well I went on a visit there during the cross country season and just meeting with the team and coaches and talking about how they like the school I really felt like they gave me straight up answers and were people I could trust. I felt like i fit in pretty nicely and the coaches and I were on the same page about everything.

What kind of runner are they getting in Cory Sayyeau?

Embry-Riddle is getting a runner who is going to try and contribute right away and is going to work hard. Looking at stats from last year they were arguably the 3rd best cross country team in the state behind UF and FSU.  I think that says something about the program they have going. I definitely want to be able to keep that kind of success going on.

What are your goals for your senior year and beyond?

Well, this season is going to go really well I think. The first goal is to run smart races and try and capture a conference title in the 3200m, then a district, regional, and a state title. I have been working with my teammate Costa Stathis and he helps me out more than I can even put into words with speed work so I have been getting quicker in workouts for sure. Beyond high school I  would love to be able to crack the twenty five minute range for 8k, but thats going to be a lot of work. With the guys at Embry-Riddle pushing me I know it can be done!
