On-Site Coverage

Meet Recap by Olivia Ortiz

Charlotte hosted the 3A Regional 3 meet on Thursday hosting some of the sunshine state’s fastest runners for their second state qualifying meet of the exciting track season. Possibly one of the most competitive regions, tension filled the air as only the top four places would qualify for the state meet next Friday at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Making it to Regionals is a tremendous accomplishment but many hope to earn the opportunity to perform on the state’s biggest stage, the state meet. A very special thank you to Robert Brown who was on-site and captured countless photos of this powerhouse Regional meet.

The story of the meet was Trayvon Bromell. The Gibbs senior and Baylor committ made jaws drop, wowing the crowd,  and winning with a new personal best  time of 10.14. That mark is the second fastest time of 2013 in the country. Only Cameron Burrell of Texas has a faster all-conditions time of 10.07 which he ran at the Texas Relays. Bromell really wanted to attend the Dream 100 in New York City to prove he belonged with the likes of Levonte Whitfield and now he is pretty much a lock for one of those ten prestigious spots! Bromell also was victorious in the 200m dash in 21.57. Island Coast senior Tyrell Johnson placed second in the 100m in a very imrpessive time of 10.40 setting a new personal best.

Next week, will be one year since my accident/injury at the state meet in Jacksonville where I took a rough fall. This time, I plan on finishing the eight laps. It has been quite the journey, but I believe everything happens for a reason and anything is possible if you believe in yourself.
