Bromell Named Gatorade National Track Athlete of the Year

State champion, Golden South champion, Great Southwest champion, New Balance National Outdoor champion, and USA Junior champion. Gibbs High School senior Trayvon Bromell has gotten used to winning over the past several months. Last week Bromell found out he was chosen Gatorade's Florida Athlete of the Year along with Kali Davis-White of Boyd Anderson. On Tuesday,  Bromell was awarded Gatorade's 2013 National Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year. It's only the second time a runner from Florida has won the prestigious award. Sanford Seminole's Andre Scott won the award in the 1993-1994 season. He says it's a blessing to have this award.

"It was a long journey this year. A lot of the things I did people didn't see that coming. It's a blessing that God gave me the talent and let me be the example to do what most people have never done. I'm glad everyone stayed by my side and showed me that I can have the heart and passion to do what I do."

As the winner of the award, the Gibbs star throws his hat in the ring for the Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year award where he is one of six national finalists which also includes Cross Country Athlete of the Year Edward Cheserek of New Jersey. For Bromell this was the icing on the cake for his senior season, but just the beginning of what the future will hold. He says he is looking forward to bigger and better things at Baylor University not just on the track, but in the classroom as well.

"It means a lot to go there. They are a great academic school and to me its about academics. My parents and coaches always preach to me about academics because track can only take me so far. I want an education and diploma for Baylor. That is going to last forever."
