St. Cloud Invitational: Walton, English Edge Out Competition, Lead Teams To Titles

St. Cloud hosted the St. Cloud XC invitational this Saturday. There were over 25 teams from central Florida as well as one from central Georgia. The weather was actually pleasant when you compare it to the rain soaked races we have had the past few weeks.

On-Site Coverage

The girl’s varsity kicked off the festivities bright and early. With George Jenkins making the trip east, this was going to be a nice preview for the district meet taking place in a few weeks against St. Cloud.  It turned out to be just that with them trading top places back and forth. Titusville and Chattahoochee (GA) were not to be left out and made sure to make their presence felt.

Emily English of George Jenkins lead from start to finish. Only a freshman, she finished with a time of 20:11. Grace Miller of St. Cloud  was second and Alexandra Baba of Freedom rounded out the top three. The win by English boosted George Jenkins to the team title with 41 points, second place was St. Cloud (running without leader Karissa Solorzano) with 73 points. Titusville scored 91 points to finish third.

The boy’s race also had a wire to wire leader in Titusville’s Xavier Walton (cover photo), who is having a great senior season. He crossed the line today in 16:32. That win was Walton’s second this year, and 5th time in the top seven. The only race he didn’t make the top ten was the  flrunners.com Invitational ROC where he ran a personal best of 16:00 and finished 21st. His teammate, freshman Mason Jones took second with a time of 17:05. Rogelio Araiza of Liberty High School took 3rd. The 1-2 punch propelled Titusville to an easy victory over 2nd place George Jenkins. Liberty took 3rd over rivals St. Cloud and Harmony.
