Results, highlights, and coverage from major high school indoor track & field meets around the country on the weekend of January 18th, 2014. After exciting action mid-week already with the Milrose Trials on Wednesday at the Armory and Mary Cain setting the World Junior 1000 meter record on Thursday in Boston, the Northeast once again has one of the featured events of the weekend, but in the state of Connecticut with the Yale Classic getting underway on Friday and lasting into Saturday. There is some great meets this weekend away from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic of the East Coast this weekend when looking at the fields assembled for the Arkansas High School Invitational at the Tyson Center in Fayetteville, the Carl Lewis Invitational at the University of Houston in Texas, the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico, and the Jimmy Carnes Youth Meet down in Gainesville, Florida.

In the girls; race, it came down to Claire Howlett of Westhill (CT) and Caroline Alcorta of West Springfield (VA) who were able to break away from previous US leader Maddy Berkson of Classical (RI) at 9:49 and last night's anchor leg on the US #1 girls DMR in Denise Branch of Benjamin Cardozo (NY). Howlett had the last top gear to then pull away from Alcorta for a two second victory in a US #1 time of 9:43.47. Jimmy Carnes Indoor Youth Meet Headquarters: What Does It Take To Be #1?

What a weekend! Friday saw the college and several pro standouts hit the track. Marvin Bracy had a nice homecoming winning the 55 meter dash on the same track he set the U.S. national high school record two years prior. Saturday saw the youth and future of our sport get their moment to shine, while the high school age groups showed why Florida is the most revered state in track and field, and invading the indoor national rankings including top ten national performances by Teahna Daniels (55 and 200), Kendal Williams (55 and 200), Daeshon Gordon (55m hurdles), and Kelvin Williams (55m hurdles)!

Bracy Returns To Spot Of High School National Record, This Time As A Pro

Two years ago Marvin Bracy was a senior at Boone High School. His first meet of 2012 would take place at the University of Florida's O'Connell Center, home of the Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track and Field Meet. Wearing a lime green and black Adidas speed suit, Bracy was down in the blocks for the start of the 55 meter dash. When the gun fired, Bracy fired out like he was shot out of a cannon. Anticipating the start spot on, he sprinted to one of the best performances I've ever seen crossing the line in 6.08 seconds.
