Dominique Rodgers Cromartie: From Florida Trackster, To Football's Biggest Stage

Seven years old standing on a track in southwest Florida, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie realized his potential as an athlete. He excelled in football, basketball, and track and field while at Lakewood Ranch High School. He graduated in 2004 and says the memory that most sticks out is a meet his senior year in which he won every event he competed in.

"I' started running track in the second grade. The thing I will remember the most is going five for five at a meet. I won the 100 and 200 as well as the long jump, triple jump, and high jump."

Coming out of high school, the standout sprinter/football player received just one offer; from Tennessee State University. As a member of the Tiger's football team he tore up the field, but it didn't stop there. On the track he won the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship in the 60, long jump, and high jump, while finishing second in the triple jump. Not bad for someone who says his first love is and will still be basketball!

Ironically, it was football that paved the way for his future. His 40 yard dash time at the NFL combine of 4.28 opened up  the door for Rodgers-Cromartie He was selected in the first round (16th) pick of the 2008 draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He says the track skills he has developed over the years have definitely helped him on the gridiron.

"Track has helped me with my speed and my jumping ability to go after the ball."

2014 marks his sixth year in the NFL and with his third team, the Denver Broncos. February 2nd, Rodgers-Cromartie and his Broncos teammates will take on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 48. From a track in Bradenton Florida, to the biggest stage in professional sports, he says that anything is possible.

"You can do whatever you want if you believe in yourself and grind day in and day out."
