In Her Own Words: Darrielle McQueen - Preparing For The Season

Over the course of the track and field season, several athletes will blog for flrunners and take us along on their journey. One of those athletes is North Florida Christian senior Darrielle McQueen. McQueen is a six-time state champion, winning four consecutive 1A titles in the triple jump, and two in the long jump. She has committed to the Univeresity of Florida. Thanks so much to Darrielle for blogging and we look forward to the first of many blogs this year!

Good morning everyone! I hope competition and training have been going well. There have been some great times and leaps to start the season off.

Training has been going very well for me. I have been seeing good improvement. I still have a few things to work on, though. I was disappointed I did not get go compete at Jimmy Carnes, but I do know everything happens for a reason. It just gives me more time to prepare for my first competition..However, I was happy to be on the campus of my future home.

Now that I've gotten my college decision out of the way (go Gators) I am able to focus a lot on my senior track and field season. It is great feeling of relief to know where I will be attending college. While at the Jimmy Carnes meet I was able to tour the facility. Before then, I had never been to an indoor meet. It was a lot different from outdoor, but I like the  contrasts. I look forward to jumping indoor someday.

Lately I have been attending the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation (NSAF) triple jump clinics. They have been extremely beneficial and fun. I've met some great coaches and  athletes. Each trip I've learned something new to take home and work on.

Although I haven't competed yet, I am very excited to get on the runway and track soon. Remember to feed your body properly and get plenty of rest. I can't wait to read about Florida's outstanding talent this season!
