In Her Own Words: Kendall Ellis - Regionals Bound

Hey ya’ll Kendall Ellis back with my blog. Let me start with last week. Districts were crazy. There’s just no other way to say it. From the weather to the organization, the whole meet was just a lot. Our meet ended up lasting two days and before the race even started the 4x4 was soaked thoroughly. Nonetheless business was handled and the team performed just as we are trained to do. Next stop regionals. Thursday at Ansin some of the very best will go head to head in a battle for a chance at the state track meet. In my opinion, 4A has one of the hardest regions and it will be a show to see, sort of like a preview to state.

In my personal life, this week I had the BCAA Scholar Athlete Banquet. It was amazing to hear how talented these kids are while maintaining such a high academic status. It’s challenging to be a student athlete, but I think there’s a sort of perk that comes with the title. We all know at the end of the day there’s no other life we would choose. Speaking of the life of a student athlete, it is indeed a struggle. Especially being on spring break it’s so hard to get up and go to practice. Sometimes we just want to have fun and not have to worry about practice in the next couple of hours. Like Coach Dorsett said, “This is the life we chose as student athletes”. Preach.

Team bonding! I love bonding since it’s so essential to a team. If the chemistry off the track is great, it’s even better on the track. We had a team sleepover just to spend some time together and get ready for regionals. We’re girls. We talk, watch movies, laugh and just have fun. I love being around my teammates because this really is the funniest group of girls I have ever met. The best way to relax and calm down before a meet is to spend time with my teammates because they really are an extended family.

That's all for this week. I wish all of you guys the very best in your upcoming meets and training and hope you exceed all your expectations. Don’t forget to go for the gold. Why? Because victory is best served gold.
