Future Stars Spotlight: Trevor Kattenberg

Running is a family affair for Holy Trinity sophomore Trevor Kattenberg. Older brother Tristan was a standout for the Tigers, while twin brother Egan, and little sister Anique are current members of the team. Interview with Holy Trinity Academy (FL) sophomore Trevor Kattenberg

How did you get into the sport?

I ran the Holy Trinity Tiger Dash 5k in 6th grade and I ran a good time so I continued running.

As a freshman you were fifth at the 1A Cross Country Finals and followed that up with a fourth place showing in the 3,200m at state. What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my teammates and my coach and my parents.

You went 430.93 and 9:39.33 on the track. How did that help heading into this cross country season having that speed to go with an already good base?

I wish I had more closing speed because at the line I lose most of the time, but that speed gives me confidence that I can hang in when everybody starts kicking.

What did your summer training consist of?

I ran 700 miles over the summer in addition to workouts every week.

You opened up the season at the Wickham Park Jamboree where you posted the fastest sophomore time in the state and 12th best nationally in the class of 2017, of 15:52. After a runner-up finish in week one, you were fourth at the Astronaut Invitational with another sub 16 minute time of 15:59.80. How would you sum up your season early on?

My season is starting off really well. I nearly beat my personal best from last year (15:48.89) which was really tough to get, so it has started off well. Not everyone can say they are ranked as one of the top sophomores in the country so that is an honor.

What meets are looking forward to for the rest of the season?

I am looking forward to the Carrollton, Georgia meet this weekend as well as Great American in North Carolina, the FSU Invitational/Pre-State and the state meet.

Your brother Tristan was a three time state finalist in cross country and finished third in 2013 as a senior. Your twin brother Egan is on the varsity boys team and your little sister Anique is only a seventh grader, but one of the top runners on junior varsity.  What kind of impact has the sport had on the family?

Having every one in the family run makes all of us more competitive and makes you want to out run all of your siblings. I really want to break my brother Tristan's records just to beat them. Having my twin brother Egan on the team is nice because I always have someone to run with and compete with.

The Holy Trinity boy's cross country program has won an astounding seven state championships. What does it mean to you to be able to contribute to some of those and be the next in line to bring home even more titles?

It's great because their is so much tradition. I just want to be a person for the next generation to look up to and see what we accomplished.

What are your goals for the rest of the season?

My goals are to be in the low fifteens like 15:10 ish and to win state.
