It was in 1959 when the 1st private school made a Top 10 appearance at the state meet and that was Bishop Kenny taking 9th place that season.  Now the Top 5 all-time teams are from private schools.  This leaves Largo currently as the best all-time public school.

In column three (i.e. 4/2) the 1st number indicates the number of times that team finished in their highest position, the 2nd number, without or before winning a state title.  Of all the current leaders only Belen Jesuit has ever won a state title, but it took them 21 years & 20 top 10 appearance before winning there 1st title in 1995.

WIN, PLACE & SHOW

In Florida Boys State Meet history 13 teams took the title in their 1st trip into the Top 10.  This has not been repeated since 1975 Palmetto came out of nowhere to win the 2A Title. So it would appear to be very difficult for any team to do so again.  There have been 24 teams that would make their 1st appearance in the Top 10 by finishing as runner-up at state with the last being last year's  runner up Coral Reef in 2013. At one time there was a ten years stretch between runner's-up.  There have also been 24 3rd place 1st time finishes at state meet most recently Bartram Trail in 2006.
