Bromell 9.84, New Collegiate Record, US#10 All-Time On Day One At USA Championships

We all knew Trayvon Bromell was fast. After running a 9.90 wind-legal in the prelims of the NCAA Championships and 9.88w (2.7 m/s) to finish runner-up to Andre DeGrasse, Bromell again burnt up the track at historic Hayward Field. The Baylor sophomore ran 9.84 (1.3 m/s) in the prelims of the 2015 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championship, making him tied for the 10th fastest man in the world ALL-TIME.

Another Florida sprint standout, Kendal Williams, a freshman at FSU, went head to head with Bromell in the fourth and final heat finishing third with a time of 10.07 and qualifying to the semi-finals. The two both mean team USA last year and competed in the IAAF World Youth Championships. Williams upset Bromell to win gold in the 100 and the group paired up for a formidable 4x100m relay. The Florida flare continues in the semi's with Marvin Bracy. The former Boone Brave and FSU Seminole, was second out of heat one with a time of 9.93w. Bracy, rocking a mohawk, in typical crazy Marv fashion, said afterwards he was nursing an injured hamstring, but still felt great after making it through the prelims.

Seventeen year old and new pro Kaylin Whitney didn't have as much success. The former East Ridge Knight just missed out on qualifying for the women's 100m dash. Whitney, a triple medalist at last year's IAAF World Youth Championships, ran 11.18w and finished sixth in her heat. Despite, the unfortunate news, she still has her best event the 200m dash later this weekend.

Barbara Pierre who went to HS in FL advances as well in women's 100m as Tianna Bartoletta, Candace McGrone, Torie Bowie, Charonda Williams, and Alex Anderson who all train in Florida.

Floridians Sanya Richards Ross, Robin Reynolds, Kala Funderburk, and DeeDee Trotter who lived in Altamonte and trained at UCF for a short time all advance to next round in women's 400m dash!


In junior action, UF freshman Lloydricia Cameron who had a great high school career at Miami Northwestern finished second in the discus with a new PR throw of 52.01m (170'7"). Cameron was seeded fifth coming into the event with a best of 51.48m. Former Apopka standout Jamal Whittaker was fifth in the men's shot put with a throw of 20.03m (65-8¾).
