Salute To Seniors: Alex Centi - Flagler Palm Coast High School

The 2014-2015 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

What was your most memorable race/competition?

The most memorable race for me would have to be going 7.55 in the 4x8 at the region of death and running the school's 3rd fastest 4x8 time ever this year!

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would have spent the time doing the extra things like core and extra runs on the weekends or not letting my mind get to me.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Having to come back from being hurt and playing catch up the whole season.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my team and my coach Dave Halliday most importantly. He has the biggest inspiration for me. The guy is the youngest hall of fame coach in the state of Florida. Thanks coach.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Don't get wrapped up in thinking you're fast because there's someone right around the corner who’s looking to beat you. Just work hard.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

Man there's not enough I can say about my coach and what him and his family did for me. You know he helped shape me into the person I am. It's not just about cross country or track either. Just the extra stuff like helping me study or just taking to me when I was down and telling me to keep my head up and that I'm truly a strong runner or turning me from a nobody, to a 2x state qualifier. Things like that. I will miss him a lot.

What are your college plans?

I will be attending Lincoln College (junior college) under a two year scholarship, to run indoor and outdoor track.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to say thank you to all my teammates because without them I don't what I would have done. I will never forget the ones I grinded with every single day for three years. I also want to say thank you my coach David Halliday for everything you helped me with. Love you coach. Also, thanks to all my teachers and my guidance counselor Ms. Howell too.
