WATCH: Drew McMichael Clears State All-Time Best 17'2

Drew McMichael had one goal for his senior season: clear 17 feet and try to break the all-time state pole record of 17'1.5" set by Edgewater's Mike Holloway back in 1987. The ECS standout and Auburn signee accomplished that feat Saturday at the JAC Street Vault. McMichael won the competition with a 16'6" clearance and then asked for the bar to be raised to 17'2, which he cleared on his second attempt. He told us afterward this day was a long time coming.

"Words can't explain this moment. It was well overdue I hadn't jumped since nationals so I was surprised to be honest. I had been jumping off and on the last two weeks. I came into this meet with a week before i left for school and I just wanted to have some fun. I won at 16'6 and only had one goal and it was to break the state record."
