1A Girls Rankings

By: Mark Caulfield, Circle Christian School, markscaul@aol.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Holy Trinity keeps getting stronger and solidifies top spot for the 3rd ranking. The Tigers Top 3 are a force and they are improving at #4-6 which makes them tough to beat at this time. After HTA, looks like a battle between 7 teams, any one of whom could get to the podium with solid improvement over the next month. Big movement at the #2 spot though with Westminster Christian moving from #8 following a strong showing at FLrunners while being led by two talented middle schoolers. Oak Hall drops a few spots as they work through some mid-season injuries to some top runners. Anticipate they will be there in the end much like last year. Lots of newcomers added to the rankings this time with Kings Academy making the biggest jump.

2A Girls Rankings

By: Mike Becker, several schools

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Bolles destroys field at Bale n Trail.. Pine Crest annihilates field at Fl Runners. Bale N Trail a slower course for sure. That being said Pine Crest 5th (little Yared) was sick and basically didn't run. I'll go out on a limb and say that PC is a bit stronger through 3 (though Wilson, Shapiro and Hajda are capable are proving me wrong). But with both teams having 3 runners in top 12, they won't gain much. Cross country is so much about depth, and if PC will overtake Bolles, it will come down to 4 and 5. Right now, even though PC 4th and 5th are improving, they are still ever so slightly behind Bolles. Bolles also has better 6 and 7. We will see these titans collide next week at Pre State. Whoever wins that one will go into November as a slight favorite, although motivationally I have seen teams lose the pre state match up and return with a vengeance. It wouldn't shock me to see these two teams both beat Winter Park. They are that good. Next comes Satellite, though several of their top runners are ineligible for state. Ransom still solid as 4 (3 in actual state meet rankings). But if Lemon bay is hiding a 5th runner look out for the Lemons. Their 1, 2, 3 is superior to Ransom and Satellite.

Rank. Team - Comments

1 Bolles -- virtual meet gives it to PC but Bolles has run slower courses

2. Pine Crest -- might be the number 1 team in entire state if 4th and 5th improve slightly

3. Satellite - *** this would be the full satellite team

4. Ransom Everglades -- Great year

5. Satellite ** this would be their state eligible team

6. Eastside

7. St Brendan

8. Trinity Prep

9. Lemon Bay- through 4 runners they are as good as Satellite and Ransom… but 5th runner counts. If they clone a runner can get to third

10. Lake Highland Prep

11. Bishop Kenny

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: First I apologize for previously ignoring Rebecca Clark from Mount Dora… she is clearly a top kid… I thought she was A. Adding Clark in to the mix, even further accentuates how tough AA is. Honestly if any of the top 10 get hot, they can win , though If I had to go to Vegas and bet, I'd bet on Collier or Yared

Rank. Name- School- Comments

1. Caitlin Collier- Bolles - Beaten last week by Delay, but hasn't been beaten by a AA runner last three races. A beast of a runner

3. Leigha Torina -- Marion- has defeated a returning Yared, so she gets spot 2 for now

4. Tsion Yared- Pine Crest - defending State champion awesome at FL Runners faster course. It appears that " she is back"

5. Alyssa Pujals -- Pine Crest…. This is probably the most significant senior transfer AA has seen in my recollection.

7. Rebecca Clark- Mount Dora -- clearly a factor for gold

8. Lauren Archer -- Ransom Everglades lurking in the back of top 10 but capable of front of top 10

8. Natalie Varela -- Gulliver don't be deceived by slower times in Miami races… her victory in slow section at FL Runners very impressive

9. Nicole Matysik -- Key West -- new on running scene but super solid every race to date

10. Julia Montgomery - Pine Crest- two time state cross country champion can never be counted out

11. Ally Hadja -- Bolles -- very capable of top 10

12. Maggie Rice- Newberry - ditto

13. Skye Zeller -- Space Coast - ditto

14. Mackenzie Wilson -- not only capable of top 10… but 10:45 3200 tells you she is capable of even gold

15. Beatriz Ruan - Ransom state runner up last year still lurking in the bushes

16. Rachel Shapiro- Bolles 4th runner and in top 16

3A Girls Rankings

By: Steve Farnsworth, Lecanto HS, farnsworthfarm@yahoo.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: The rankings are now based solely on times and performances in the last three weeks -- this poll measures what teams and individuals are doing now, not what they ran on fast courses the first two weeks of the season. Adjustments: Alligator Lake, UF Mountain Dew, and North Port are normally fast courses that ran slower this year because of wet conditions -- no adjustments to these meets. FLRunners had its usual fast course for the Saturday races -- 15 seconds are added to times from these races. Mitchell Invite had large amounts of dry, loose sand and Holloway Park was its usual slow self -- 40 seconds are deducted from these meet times. JD Mac appears to be closer to a 3-mile than a 5K, so no times from this meet will be considered for ranking purposes. This poll lists the top six teams in each region, plus the next best team as a wild card. Teams that are top-25, but were bumped out by being in a tough region are listed under honorable mention. Best team averages in last three weeks are given for reference only and are not the only basis for rankings, and do not follow them completely -- head to head competition and consistency in performance is also considered.

4A Girls Rankings

By: Ryan Raposo, John A. Ferguson HS, ryanraposo@gmail.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: After finally getting most teams on similar courses (whether legitimate or not) we now have some better comparisons with some true head-to-head match-ups. Although not everyone was at flrunners, a few other meets helped big with the rankings such as Spanish River (interestingly enough, both of these courses measured exactly the same to the foot!). Hopefully we'll see more head-to-head performances this weekend at FSU Pre-State and then before you know it the season will be coming to a close. Also, like always, many teams in Region 1 and 2 are boxed out due to incredible depth. It's going to be tough to make it to state this year for many of these teams, so good luck and keep racing fast!

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: We're close to mid-season (counting the state series) and the past two weeks have been rather tricky. Between middle measure [short] courses (UF & flrunners & Spanish River), road races (North Port), and athletes not racing their A team for a couple of weeks (Winter Park), this made the rankings a tad bit tricky. Two big notes, we have a new #1 girl at the top of our list after a fantastic performance at Chain of Lakes this past weekend. (If I dropped Ashley Brasovan once before in the rankings to Emilie Amaro, then I can do the same with Rafaella if she's been missing from racing! Hah!) And the second big note is Daesha Rogers cracking the top ten as she debuted (in her fourth school in four years) at a hard Larry & Penny course last week, nearly breaking the 20 minute barrier. Let's see what happens once she gets in shape. But all of this will be thrown out the window after this next weekend, so good luck at FSU Pre-State and Great American everyone!

1A Boys Rankings

By: Mark Caulfield, Circle Christian School, markscaul@aol.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: The battle for #1 going into the State Series stills seems to be an interesting matchup between Father Lopez and Maclay. Father Lopez has been slightly more consistent each week with a tight pack and solid depth. Maclay has talent and experience and are looking to get some people healthy for their typical late season charge into the State Meet. Both teams go head to head this week at FSU. Shorecrest is gradually moving up but have been a little up and down. They certainly have the talent and experience so it would not be a surprise to see them close the gap. Most of the top 12 remain close to the same while spots 13-20 have introduced a number of new teams to the rankings looking to break into the Top 10. The next two weeks should prove a lot!

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: What has been most impressive in this week's Class 1A Poll is the number of wins at big meets that have been accomplished from the State's smallest school division. Perhaps none more bigger or exciting than the state leading 15:20 win by Noah Perkins of Seffner Christian at the FLrunners.com Invitational Elite race. He is in a class by himself. #2 Luke Peterson of Shorecrest had impressive wins at North Port (16:14) and the FLrunners.com Invite race (16:26). #3 Ryan Szklany of Highlands Christian took big wins at the Pine Crest Invitational (16:51) and the FLrunners Small School division race (16:32). #5 Tucker Hindle of Boca Raton Christian had a nice win at the Fergusson Invitational (16:51) while #6 Guilherme Pereira had a big win at the Spanish River Invitational (16:41). Even though #4 Chase Hyland did not have any wins, he came away with an impressive runner-up at UF (1A/2A) in 16:25. The crème is starting to rise to the top!

2A Boys Rankings

By: Bryan Garcia, H.B. Plant High School, bcgfalcons@yahoo.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Another two weeks of the season produced another crazy 2A shake up. Trinity Prep is not only the best team in the state currently, but arguably one of the top teams in the nation after their 24 point victory in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite. TP had a wild 27 second spread from 16:03-16:30! Labelle made things interesting as they rose up into the second spot with another short 1-5 spread. Bishop Kenny had a great race in Atlanta where 3 guys broke 17 as they move up into the top 5. I found out a couple of weeks ago that I was mistaken, and that Satellite has eligibility for the majority of its runners making them one of the top 5 teams in 2A. 6 of the top 10 teams listed below will be in the elite race at FSU this weekend and we could be looking at even more movement in two weeks as the best in the state battle it out Saturday morning!

Regional Outlook: Bishop Kenny appears to have the edge on rival Bolles. BK has beaten them once head to head this season and we will get a great Region 1 preview this Saturday. In Region 2, Trinity Prep has a strong hold with Lake Highland Prep holding down the second spot currently coming off a two top 2 finishes the past two weeks. Labelle appears to have Region 3 under control from the time being, although rival Immokalee would love nothing more than to knock them off this weekend in Tallahassee. Region 4 is once again the most represented region in 2A. Satellite has a slight edge over Pine Crest, but you never know what could transpire this Saturday in Tallahassee. You can't count out Calvary Christian or Ransom Everglades either. Ransom will be in the select race at FSU, but it will still be a chance to see where they stack up. It should be quite the weekend in the Panhandle!

Rank. (Previous Rank) Team, Region = Comments

1. (1), Trinity Prep, Region 2 = Trinity Prep had an incredible race at the flrunners.com ROC. They had 7 guys under 17 minutes including 5 guys in the top 25. They handily beat US high school powers Saint Anthony's and Belen Jesuit, reinforcing their run at another state championship.

2. (3), Labelle, Region 3 = With back to back huge races, Labelle moves up into the runner-up position in 2A. After winning the North Port Invite with a 17:13 team average, Labelle placed 4th at the ROC at flrunners.com Invite with a 16:58 team average and had another crazy 31 second 1-5 split. Huge race for them as they distinguish themselves from the rest of the 2A field.

3. (6), Bishop Kenny, Region 1 = BK placed 3rd at the Atlanta Classic to the 3rd and 4th ranked team in 4A in Georgia with a 17:01 team average. It was a great race for BK who had 9 sub 19 guys and could be an even more formidable force in the elite race at FSU this weekend.

4. (NR), Satellite, Region 4 = Earlier believed to have an eligibility limit on some key members, Satellite showed up to place 5th at the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite with a 16:59 team average. They beat Pine Crest by 9 points and are looking for another big race in the FSU elite race.

5. (2), Pine Crest, Region 4 = PC placed 7th in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite with a 17:03 team average. They ran well, but were out done by Labelle and Satellite who ran great races. They are a team to watch as they head into the elite race at FSU.

6. (4), Bolles, Region 1 = With a 17:12 team average at the Bale N Trail Invite, Bolles finished 2nd only to 3A power Creekside. Bolles will be in the elite race at FSU this weekend and will have a chance to fight the rest of the 2A powers in the state!

7. (7), Immokalee, Region 3 = Immokalee placed 9th at the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite with a 17:17 team average. Immokalee had a great race the week before at the North Port Invite placing 3rd and will look to continue their strong team running in the elite race at FSU.

8. (NR), Calvary Christian, Region 4 = Calvary placed 15th at the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite with a 17:17 team average. With Joel Lacy back and running strong, and Danny Ferro running his best in his young career, Calvary will be one to watch closely as we head into October.

9. (9), Ransom Everglades, Region 4 = Ransom placed 22nd at the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite with a 17:40 team average. They had 4 sub 18 minute guys and will be in the select race at FSU where they will see other top 2A teams.

10. (5), West Florida Tech, Region 1 = West Florida Tech raced 2 weeks ago winning the Bayside Academy in Alabama with a 17:35 team average. They placed 5 guys in the top 10 and looked especially strong going 1,2,3. They will line up this Saturday at FSU in the select race where they should be the top 2A team.

11. (8), Titusville, Region 4 = Titusville placed 25th at the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite with a 17:49 team average. Titusville has front runner in Mason Jones and he will look to lead the team against formidable 2A teams West Florida Tech and Ransom Everglades in the select race at FSU.

12. (12), Episcopal School of Jacksonville, Region 1 = Episcopal had a 5th place finish with an 18:12 team average at the Bale N Trail Invite. They were the second best 2A team to Bolles and will head into October as a one of the teams to watch.

(10), Lake Highland Prep, Region 2 = Lake Highland Prep has had back to back big races with a 2nd place finish at the Darter Dash to Oviedo and then won the boys small school team race at the flrunners.com Invite with an 18:07 team average. LHP will be back in action this week in the select race at FSU as they face off against a strong field.

14. (NR), Archbishop McCarthy, Region 4 = Archbishop McCarthy was 2nd to Lake Highland Prep in the boys small school team race at the flrunners.com Invite with an 18:05 team average. Led up front by William Shine who placed 2nd, this team will be looking to improve as they head into October as they look to qualify for the State meet as the 6th Region 4 team currently.

15. (NR), Lemon Bay, Region 3 = Lemon Bay won the boys unseeded small school team race Saturday at the flrunners.com Invite with an 18:11 team average. LB is the third best team from Region 3 behind Labelle and Immokalee and will look to carry that moment into October.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: The 2A field is getting deep at the mid-way point of the 2015 season! 14 of the top 31 runners from this past weekend's Race of Champions at the flrunners.com Invite hail from 2A. Distinguishing himself from this stacked field, Trevor Foley busted out an incredible race at UF two weeks ago where he broke 16 minutes for the first time. Foley will look to stay on top of 2A, although Mason Jones, anyone from Trinity Prep, Michael Kennedy, Danny Ferro, and the Kattenberg twins will try to hawk him down at FSU this weekend. 20 of the top 25 runners will be in the elite race at FSU, where some state medal hopefuls will look to emerge as we head into October and the championship season.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Name, Grade -- Team = Time / Comments

1. (2), Trevor Foley, 10th -- Hernando = Emerging in two huge races the past two weeks, Foley was the top 2A runner at UF where he ran a huge PR of 15:34 and the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite where he went 15:54. He was the runner-up to 3A phenom Steven Cross at UF and placed 6th this past weekend, making him the man to beat in 2A as he heads into the elite race at FSU.

2. (7), Mason Jones, 11th -- Titusville = 1A/2A UF Invite champion in 16:23 and was 8th in 16:00 at the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite. Jones moved back into the top of 2A with his last two races and will be back at it in the select race at FSU this weekend.

3. (8), Chas Cook, 12th -- Trinity Prep = Cook was 10th overall in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite this past weekend in 16:03. Cook was the 3rd 2A guy and will go back at it with the best this weekend in the elite race at FSU.

4. (5), Caleb Pottorff, 12th -- Lincoln Park = After placing 2nd at the 2A race at the Spanish River Invite, Pottorff placed 13th in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite in a PR of 16:11. Pottorff is looking strong as we go into October.

5. (1), Michael Kennedy, 11th -- Pine Crest = With back to back PR's, Kennedy placed 16th in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite where he ran 16:16. Kennedy has been bringing it and will look to do the same in the elite race at FSU this weekend.

6. (4), Trent Mandato, 11th -- Trinity Prep = Mandato was right on the heels of Kennedy in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite where he placed 17th in a 16:16. Mandato was the 6th best 2A runner and will be racing in the elite race at FSU this weekend.

7. (6), Jesse Millson, 12th -- Trinity Prep = Going back to back, Millson was 18th behind teammate Mandato in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite running 16:18. The "M & M" combo will be looking to compete with the best in the state at FSU this weekend.

8. (NR), Egan Kattenberg, 11th -- Satellite = On everyone's heels, Kattenberg was 19th in 16:18 in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite. Kattenberg is doing some of the best running of his career as he heads into the elite race at FSU.

9. (13), Danny Ferro, 10th -- Calvary Christian = With a big win at the 2A Spanish River Invite, Ferro followed that up finishing 22nd in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite where he ran 16:27. Ferro is the next best sophomore in 2A behind Foley and is setting up for a top 10 finish at the State Meet down the line.

10. (9), Patrick Salas, 11th -- Trinity Prep = Sporting a 20 second PR from the ROC, Salas placed 23rd at the flrunners.com Invite with a 16:28. Salas will be in the elite race at FSU with the rest of his teammates looking to be among the top in 2A this weekend.

11. (20), Nathan Jubran, 10th -- Bishop Kenny = Ever improving, Jubran ran a big PR of 16:26 at the Atlanta Classic placing 3rd. Jubran is among a stacked 2A sophomore class and will be in the elite race at FSU this weekend.

12. (NR), Trevor Kattenberg, 11th -- Satellite = Kattenberg was 16:29 placing 24th in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite. Part of the Kattenberg 1,2 punch, he will be going at it with the best in 2A in the elite race at FSU.

13. (NR), Galloway Kayamo, 8th -- Trinity Prep = Kayamo hadn't run faster than 17:53; then the 8th grade stud ran 16:30 in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite announcing his arrival! With that huge PR in the bag, Kayamo will be in the elite race at FSU.

14. (21), Alejandro Ruiz, 12th -- Immokalee = Ruiz was 28th in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite running 16:33. After his best race this year, Ruiz will lead Immokalee into the elite race at FSU this weekend.

15. (3), Gabriel Correa, 12th -- Ransom Everglades = Placing 31st in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite, Correa ran 16:37. The week before, he was 2nd in the 1A/2A race at UF where he ran a season best 16:32 and will look to notch another best this weekend in the select race at FSU.

16. (NR), Brig Merritt, 12th -- North Marion = Coming out of nowhere, Merritt had a 40 second PR at UF two weeks ago to place 4th in the 1A/2A race. After getting a 27th place finish at the State Meet last year from Moises Herrera, there could be another North Marion runner headed for even bigger heights and Merritt will look to continue pushing it as he heads into the select race at FSU.

17. (11), Leonal Ochoa, 11th -- Berkeley Prep = Ochoa was the 5th place finisher in the 1A/2A race at UF two weeks ago where he ran 16:50. Ochoa will face off with the best of the best in the elite race at FSU this weekend.

18. (24), William Shine, 12th -- Archbishop McCarthy = After running in the low 17's for his first three meets, Shine shone in the boys small school race as he finished as the runner-up in a time of 16:35. Shine will be looking for an even bigger breakthrough in the select race at FSU this weekend.

19. (NR), Mason Gerry, 12th -- Bishop Kenny = Gerry was 17:14 twice this season before breaking out at the Atlanta Classic running 16:37 to finish 7th. Gerry will be in the elite race at FSU where he will be racing the best in 2A.

20. (NR), Brendan Hererra, 11th -- Labelle = With back to back PR's, Hererra placed 33rd in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite where he broke 17 for the first time running 16:42. The previous week, Hererra was 26th at the North Port Invite and hopes to be back up there in the elite race at FSU.

21. (NR), Omar Figueroa, 12th -- Labelle = Only 4 seconds behind teammate Hererra in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite, Figueroa placed 36th in a time of 16:46. The week before, Figueroa was 15th at the North Port Invite. He will be back in action in the elite race at FSU.

22. (10), Charles Hicks, 9th -- Bolles = Hicks placed 5th at the Bale N Trail Invite in a time of 16:48. The top freshmen in 2A, Hicks will be back in the mix as his team will be in the elite race at FSU this weekend.

23. (NR), Ryan Welch, 12th -- Pine Crest = Welch was 41st in a time of 16:51 in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite. It was Welch's first time breaking 17 this year and he will look to do the same this weekend in the elite race at FSU.

24. (18), Antonio Gomez, 10th -- Frostproof = Gomez has had a crazy 2 weeks of racing. He went 16:16 for the win at the Hardee XC Meet, then placed 24th in the 1A/2A race at UF running a time of 17:52, and then finally he was the runner-up at the George Jenkins Jamboree in a time of 17:09. Heading into October, we should be able to get a better feel of where Gomez stacks up individually in the state.

25. (NR), Troy Smith, 9th -- Rockledge = Smith placed 50th in the 3A/4A race at UF two weeks ago, and then dropped a major PR of 16:48 to place 3rd in the invitational race at the flrunners.com Invite. With his strong time, Smith will be one to watch heading into October.

Notable name(s) left off:

> Joel Lacy seems to be back at it running 17:27 at the 2A Spanish River Invite placing 3rd two weeks ago and then running 16:57 this past weekend in the ROC at the flrunners.com Invite placing 49th. Along with teammate Ferro, he could be one of the top runners in the select race at FSU this upcoming weekend and should be back in the top 25 in two weeks.

> Daniel Dean ran a season best of 17:13 at the Seffner Christian Invite placing 8th. That was Dean's last race that he has on flrunners. He has the talent to be in the top 25, so we will have to see what he does in the upcoming weeks.

> Both Anderson Bobo and Von Littlejohn led their teams to wins in the last two weeks. Anderson Bobo led Lake Highland Prep to win the boys small school race where he placed 5th in a time of 17:01, and the week before, he was the runner-up at the Darter Dash in a time of 16:56; two weeks ago, Littlejohn led West Florida Tech to the win at the Battle of the Bay Invite in Alabama in a time of 17:11. Bobo and Littlejohn were in smaller races, but we will get a better feel of where they fit in the 2A mix this weekend in the select race at FSU.

3A Boys Rankings

By: Eric Pino, Christopher Columbus HS, epino@columbushs.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: There are 3 teams in this division with key "injuries/illnesses/not yet hitting stride" with their top runners. Belen's Zayas, Creekside's Deal, and Vangaurd's Fitzpatrick. How these 3 recover/rebound will play a role on how everything settles in 6 weeks.

You have Belen breaking away in 3A and 3-4 teams scrambling to be ready in Nov in case things go really bad for Belen at the ARP. Ocala, Creekside, Leon are all (or will be) pretty even on that day. From there it seems to drop to another 3 teams, Chiles, BT, and Gainesville battling it out. After that, Niceville seems to be the best of the rest (if they can make it out of region 1) and its pretty open from there.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Team, Region = Comments

1. (1) Belen Jesuit, 4 = Not their best day at FLR16 but even an off day for them is still good enough to be the #1 ranked team. They ran FLR16 and will be running without their #3 for the next few weeks (with him running they still would of come in 3rd but it would have been closer). This team is strong all around. Once they have 5 back they will be nearly unstoppable, until then they are "just" great. Their depth is impressive. 57s 1-5 Split (20 secs less than 2 weeks ago).

2. (2) Creekside, 1 = Remains in 2nd place but have fallen of Belen to be grouped into the chase pack (until they get Deal going again). 16:57 avg with a 52s split for the win at Bale N Trail (only race in the past 2 weeks). They are strong up top and then a gap and then another 4 come in. This gap with Deal is from 3-4, which does much less damage than 2-3. Very impressive roster.

3. (3) Chiles HS, 1 = Held of Leon, who only had a team avg 2 secs slower but Chiles was able to win by 28pts. They had the fastest 3,4 & 5 of the 5 quality 3A teams @ Alligator Lake. Those individual battles continue to open up the lead against the competition.

Seems to be a drop in team quality to the next 3 teams.

4. (4) Bartram Trail, 1 = 30pts behind Creekside at Bale N Trail (only race in the past 2 weeks). They put 3 sub 17 there but then comes the gap to 4 and another to #53rd at Florida Horse Park. They were a decent ways ahead of Vanguard getting 7 in front of their 5 and this is in the mid to high 17 range where the masses come in.

5. (10) Leon HS, 1 = 2nd @ Alligator Lake with a 17:07 team avg. They win at the 1 & 2 every time and even have the best 1-3. There 4 is within the average but the gap to 4 is what gets them. That combo up front keeps them in the mix but need some secs dropped on the back end. The gap to Chiles is definitely closer.

6. (9) Niceville, 1 = No front-runner but their pack is really good. They went 14, 21, 22 in their last race and 4 & 5 seem to be working together coming in 38 & 41. Their team average is slow but the pack keeps them in it. This is dangerous at the state meet, especially in the zone the pack is coming in at. A front-runner really alleviates the hit on the score sheet. There region doesn't help them in allowing them to game plan for states.

7. (6) Ocala Vangaurd, 2 = They only raced once since the last rankings and came in 8th @ Alligator Lake. If you throw Joey Fitz in there who is coming off sickness and they are with in 10 of the win. IF Kray Hubner continues to run as he has and progress this could get interesting for a podium spot at crunch time. Having a Hellion at the helm gives me faith in the program.

8. (10) Gainesville, 2 = Ran very well at UF placing 4th. There weren't any other quality 3A teams to compare them to but they placed with in striking distance of Lyman, which is a quality team. They followed this up though by coming un 4th @ Alligator Lake losting to Niceville, Leon, & Chiles.

9. (7) Fort Myers HS, 3 Really strong showing @ FLR16. 10th overall. 62s 1-5 split and 2 strong runners up front followed by a steady 3-5. .

Teams contending for 10-15

10. (8) New Smyrna Beach, 2 = 2nd to Creekside @ Ponte Vedra.

11. (11) Viera, 4 = Beat out New Smyrna Beach @ FLR16.

12. (12) Pace, 1 = 10th @ Aligator Lake.

13. (N/A) Merritt Island, 4 = Beat New Smyrna & Viera @ FLR16. At a state meet they'll presumably fall behind them because of the make up of the race. Their best runner not being able to improve also locks them in back here.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Most guys raced each other at UF, Bale N Trail, Alligator Lake &/OR FLR16. Head to head with a little common sense. Cross leads the way followed by a gap to a group of 6-8 runners jockeying for position though a few of them seem to come out ahead of the pack every time. This same case happens for the 3rd pack. Again, there are 3 guys that are question marks right now. See below.

Rank. (Previous Rank) Name, Grade -- Team = Time / Comments 1. (1) Steven Cross, 12-- Merritt Island HS = 15:27 victory at UF.15:20 Out kicked by Perkins (who he beat the week before by 20s) for his 1st loss this season. Has a strong lead on the rest of the pack.

2. (4) Matthew Clark, 11 -- Creekside HS = 16:28 & won Bale N Trail. Beat his team mate and Jackson by 6s.

3. (3) Joshua Collins, 10 --Belen Jesuit Preparatory School = 15:52 at UF ahead of all but Cross. Seemed to struggle at FLR16 with a 16:21 and only 2s ahead of his teammate. Even with the hiccup, he's still #3.

4. (N/A) Joseph Story, 11 -- Creekside HS = Raced Jackson twice @Ponte Vedra &Bale N Trail and beat Jackson by 11 & 6s respectively. Closed the gap between his teammate Clark. Had him 20th in my 1st ranking and then off the board. Nice to see him back and taking a leap.

5. (2) Jonathan Jackson, 12- 16:27 & 16:34 in his last 2 races. As we know time doesn't mean much but his placement has been stellar--3rd, 1st, 12th, 4th, 3rd have been his finishes this season. Consistency is a great attribute to have.

6. (12) Blake Lowery, 12 -- Gainesville HS = 15:56 @UF, 2nd out of the 3A guys in that race. Won the Alligator Lake Invite 18s ahead of a stacked 3A field.

7. (9) Jaime Lopez, 12 --Belen Jesuit Preparatory School = 16:25 @UF,30s behind Blake. 16:30 @FLR16; 3rd on his team.

8. (10) Matthew Cashin, 11 -- Leon HS = 2nd @ Alligator Lake after taking the week before off. Came in 2nd to Lowery @ 4secs ahead of his team mate. Great battle to have on a team.

9. (8) Marshal Dillon, 12 -- Charlotte HS = 16:43 at UF, an avg of 20s behind Belen Pack. 15:59 at FLR16. Over 20s in front of the Belen pack.

10. (5) Austin Dodson, 12 -- Chiles HS = 16:27 & 5th at @ Alligator Lake UNF; 16:20 FL Horse Park & outkicked for the win.

11. (6) Adam Wallenfelsz, 12 -- Leon HS = 16:24 & 4th @ Alligator Lake. Also had an off week 2 weeks ago.

12. (14) Nicholas Roca, 12 -- Belen Jesuit Preparatory School = 16:23 @FLR16. Seemed to step up for Belen when they needed him

13. (N/A) Jordan Bubar, 12 -- Bartram Trail = lost to Jackson @Bale N Trail by 2s. He had fallen of the ranking list but seems to be coming back into form.

14. (11) Michael Phillips, 10 -- Chiles HS = 16:39 with a 6th place finish @ Alligator Lake . 12s off Dodson been 7 & 2 seconds behind his teammate. Teamwork!

15. (15) Austin Camps, 11 -- West Shore = Hasn't Run since UF. No word on why.

Studs injured or recovering.

> Nicholas Deal, 11 -- Creekside HS = 18:26 at Katie Caples. 16:51 @ Ponte Verde (5th overall) & 17:23 @ Bale N Trail.

> Joey Fitzpatrick, 10 = Ocala Vanguard = 15:35 last year. 17:55 @Alligator Lake. Easing him back in from Mono.

> Bruno Zayas, 12 -- Belen Jesuit Preparatory School = 17:45 @ UF. Injured. He'll be back for the post season.

4A Boys Rankings

By: Jorge Fleitas, Dr. Phillips HS, jfleitas28@gmail.com

Team Rankings:

Rank. Team- Comments

1. St. Thomas- They placed 2nd at UF I wrote in my last Rankings that there wasn't a concise No. 1 team, but St. Thomas showed us a ton on Saturday the 19th. Overcoming an opponent like Lyman.. Wow! I always said you can't win the 1st year you take over a program, but I might be proved wrong... St. Thomas should win... If the team is eligible… I don't know if anyone has told STA that you need to race 4 times before the championship part of the season…. The STA Varsity has two weeks to put in 3 races….

2. Sarasota- Sarasota is a force in 4A! They placed 5th at UF and placed 6th at ROC flrunners edging out the defending state champs…

3. Lyman- Lyman hasn't recently run like the best team in 4A, but has all the potential with Jacques, Armstrong, and Bell… They placed 3rd at UF but placed 8th at ROC flrunners

4. Winter Springs- I'm not ready to give up on the Springs quite yet. They're a State Championship caliber team, and it's not like their players suddenly got hurt. WS placed 5th at UF and 1st at Monte Carlo

5. Freedom- I was tempted to rank freedom over winter springs, but they'll have to beat them first. The reason Alex McKee returns!!! I heard a rumor he should be running at FSU... Watch out we may have a Dark horse in 4A. 11th at UF and 20th at ROC Flrunners if Mckee is in half the shape he was last year. Watch Out!

6. Ferguson- Well the Falcons soared in flrunners! In my opinion they are the MVP team of the week. They had a great showing at Flrunners….They placed 2nd at Spanish River and 11th at ROC flrunners.

7. Columbus- I had high hopes for my alma mater in 2015. They didn't put together a great race at flrunners. To me they all looked heavy… It's hard to recover once that happens. On the upside they have young athletes like Del Valle and Garcia that want to overcome the shadows of their older siblings… The Hellions placed 1st at Spanish River and 13th at ROC 8.

8. Coral Reef- Reef fans are notorious for sending me hate mail, so I'll appease them for now by ranking their team...j/k I made a huge mistake not dragging them over from my spread sheet in my last rankings... I actually made that same mistake with an individual athlete…The reef placed 3rd at Spanish River and 14th at ROC

9. Mandarin- Mandarin is another team with a wide range of possibilities they placed 7th at Alligator Lake... The Mustangs have a front runner in Trenton Liberty!!!

10. HB Plant- 1st at Mid- Season Central Florida Championships. I don't think Plant is a top 10 team but push come came to shove they ran better than any of the teams below.

11. Dr. Phillips- 7th at UF and 21st at ROC

12. Sickles- 10th at UF

12. Winter Park- 12th at UF and 23rd at ROC 13.

13. Flagler Palm Coast- 14th at UF

14. Spanish River- 4th at Spanish River and 24th at ROC 15.

15. Olympia- 16th at UF and 1st Invite at Flrunners 19.

16. Newsome- 1st at large school flrunners

17. Lake Mary- 18th at UF and B-Squad at Monte Carlo

18. Buchholz- 20th at UF and 9th at Alligator Lake

19. John I Leonard- 2nd unseeded invite and 5th at Spanish River
