High Quality Entries Result in Change to Schedule for 9th Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track and Field Meet

After seeing a flood of high quality 55-meter dash entrants for it's 9th edition, the Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track and Field committee has decided to offer a final for this event for both the boys and girls. The top 9 fastest times in the 14 and under and in the 15 and older divisions will compete in a 55 meter final in the afternoon session.

"We just felt that the high caliber fields warranted having a prelim and final," said Meet Director, Larry Holsey. "It's the first indoor meet of the year for some and the O'Dome's super-fast track is hard to gauge in just one short 55 meter race."

The 2012 meet saw the Orlando Boone's Marvin Bracy set the U.S. National High School 55-meter dash Indoor record of 6.08 so the surface is certainly fast.

"We have some of the fastest runners in the country entered- Khalifa St. Fort, the Pan Am Champ and IAAF WYC  100 meter Silver Medalist, Alfreda Steele, the FHSAA 2A State 100 meter Champion, and Taylor DeLoach, the GHSAA 2A State 100 meter Champion plus in the younger divisions we have some of stars oftomorrow- Tamari Davis, Trinity Flagler and Briana Williams," Holsey said." And who knows about the boys? Deangelo Cherry sped to a 6.21 at our first meet which was the best time in the country. No one knew who he was until the Jimmy Carnes meet. Maybe there is another Bracy or Cherry out there on the boy's side."

The new meet schedule is below.

The 9th Annual Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track and Field Meet will be contested on Saturday, February 6 in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, FL. The meet is conducted under the auspices of the Gainesville Sports Commission.

More information about registration deadlines, hotel information, waivers and the like can be found at the Gainesville Sports Commission website http://www.gainesvillesportscommission.com/

There will now be a 55m Dash Championship added to the schedule.

**The top 9 best times for 14 & under will run in one championship heat after the evening mile.

**The top 9 best time for the 15 & up will run in one championship heat after the evening 55m dash.
