Salute To Seniors: Perrisha Robinson- Rockledge High School

The 2015-2016 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

Flrunners.com: What was your most memorable race/moment?

Perrisha Robinson: My team's 4x4 relay at the 2A Regional Meet.

FLR: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

PR: My biggest competition was my own doubt and negativity. That's what held me back from trying new things and improving the things I already did.

FLR: What was your greatest accomplishment?

PR: Pushing through 4 years of blood, sweat and tears, becoming a more mature and confident person. Having no regrets and making memories I'll keep with me for the rest of my life.

FLR: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

PR: I would change my events, now that I know what I'm truly good at. Then I would do more training and keep a positive attitude through good times and bad.

FLR: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

PR: The most difficult thing was when I put 100% effort but I didn't get the results I wanted or I got the results but my competition still performed better. It was really discouraging and I felt like I peaked. It really just seemed like there was nothing I could do and felt like I wanted to quit. Luckily, I had the best family, friends, coaches and team mates to reassure me and keep me pushing. It's funny, because when they did that, I would PR.

FLR: What will you miss the most?

PR: Struggling with my team and overcoming the odds when everyone was waiting on us to fail. All the laughs and all the crying, all the fussing and fighting, the sore muscles and fun we had traveling out of town for meets. All of it.

FLR: What advice you would give to younger athletes?

PR: It's tough. It's rough. You're going to want to quit. A lot. You just got to remember that if what you're doing was easy then EVERYONE would do it. It's the fact that you're doing something difficult that's making you a champion. And that's not just with sports, that's with life.

FLR: What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

PR: My coaches definitely had a positive influence on me. The discipline they taught me and the advice they gave is not only for my sport but with every tough time I could be faced with. If it wasn't for them I probably wouldn't have ran track. No other coaches I've had have improved me more as an athlete nor a person.

FLR: What are your college plans?

PR: I'm starting school at Virginia Union University in the fall semester of 2016 on a track and academic scholarship. I'm majoring in Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

FLR: Who would you like to say thank you to?

PR: My parents and siblings for supporting me through all 4 years and always making sure I had everything I needed. My coaches for training and preparing me for all 4 years. My friends for cheering me on and being there when I needed them. And my team mates for not giving up on me. Thank you for everything. I couldn't have done it without them.

FLR: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

PR: I was asked the same question by my coach, Freddie Goins every year:
"Chump or Champ?" I'd be lying if I answered "champ" every time, but at the end of my journey I knew which one I really was. So to answer his question one last time -"CHAMP."
