In His Own Words: Caleb Pottorff - Training Above The Clouds

This fall we are honored to have Lincoln Park Academy senior Caleb Pottorff blogging for us. Pottorff, was the 2A runner-up in cross country in 2015, and finished his junior track season as the 3,200m state champion and 1,600m state runner-up. He will be one of the most sought after distance recruits out of the Sunshine State this year and we are honored to be able to share in his journey.

I figured I'd start today to discuss my summer training. As I continue to get deeper into summer my mileage is quite high. As of now I am doing 60-65 miles a week at altitude in Colorado. I am in Colorado for a camp called Team Prep USA. I am not doing any speed work out here, rather I am just doing base mileage with strong paced long runs, and long tempos. Running at altitude provides a huge advantage to some degrees, because it allows you to go an anaerobic state without having to do a ton of speed.

My summer will consist of mileage with no speed, and then as we get closer to cross country season a few speed workouts will be thrown in. Once season starts my mileage will come down for the first few week, but then I will maintain.

Do you think of your sport as an Opportunity or an Obligation?"
