LPA's Caleb Pottorff 'In Best Shape Of Life' , Shooting For Trip To San Diego

No time off. Caleb Pottorff won the 2A Cross Country Finals in the day's fastest time of 15:08.12. Pottorff's edged out Charles Hicks of Bolles in a new personal best and the 2nd fastest all-time for a state championship meet at Apalachee Regional Park. Instead of taking some much needed rest and relaxation, the Lincoln Park Academy senior says he was back to the drawing board the next day.

"Nothing really changed. I had a long run the day after state, and the pace was slower then usually, but nothing too dramatic. The training kept rolling through as I had a big track workout that Friday, and then another good long run."

The training for Pottorff hasn't let up as he is focused on Foot Locker South and advancing to San Diego. The track workout on Friday which consisted of a 500 meter repeat with short recovery, to make sure everything was clicking, and the state series didn't beat him up. He explains that the workout not only went well, but proved to him that he was in the best shape of his life.

"I just continue to prove to myself that I am in the best shape of my life in these workouts. I've compared them to other times I've done them and continually feel that I get stronger and it isn't taxing me like it used to. So it's great for my mentality feeling that."

This weekend Pottorff will be one of Florida's top entrants at Foot Locker South where he will go head to head against the region's top athletes. It will mark the seniors first time at the meet after competing at NXNSE in 2015. He knows that to find a way in the top ten it's going to take his best race.

"I just need to let my training takeover, which hopefully puts me in the top ten. To make it to San Diego, knowing that it's the best of the best there, and to be recognized as one of them would be a great feeling to me. Also, knowing that I've helped keep a tradition of Florida athletes making it to nationals alive would be amazing."
