Scouting Report: Holy Trinity Girls

The Holy Trinity girls are no stranger to the 1A podium and were the runner-ups in 2016. Giana Gayles returns as the 100mH and long jump champion while Samantha Folio gives the Tigers much needed points in the distance events. We caught up with Coach Marc Bailey for a scouting report on this year's team. (Photo by Daryth Stallone)

Who are your top returners?

Our top returners are Giana Gayles, Lizzie Bacon, Samantha Folio, and Lauryn Gayles.

Are there any key losses?

Taya Britten and Alisha Pound.

Do you have any impact freshmen or transfers coming in?

Junior Adriana Melendez.

What has the preseason training been like and what has been the focus?

We have a number of new athletes to the program. Our preseason training was very beneficial for them.
We spent the majority of preseason teaching "track and field" training concepts (ie., HT warmup and  cool down routines, emphasis on developing proper sprint mechanics, introduce several athletes to specific
technical events, and, the obvious base training (functional strength, core strength, and speed capacity training).

What meets are you keying in on?

I am Interested to see how our new kids will do at 1st meet (Sanford-Seminole NTC). We run our revamped, girls 4x100 (HT girl 4x100 have won last 5 1A state titles. It will be interesting to see if we can make it 6 in a row. FSU relays and ERAU spikes classic are other meets we are looking forward too. Finally, HT home
meet (3/3) is always special for our team.

Do you have any specific goals for the team?

Our goals are always the same. We want to qualify as many athletes as possible for the State Championship meet.

How would you describe this year's squad?

We have strong leadership on the boys and girls side.  It is always our hope that our younger athletes will  emulate the dedication and work ethic of our returning captains.  If our underclassmen and newcomers follow the lead of our leaders, the girls and boys team will have opportunity to finish in top three at state.

Is there anything else you want to add?

For me, I am encouraged with the high-level of commitment to this point in the season. I am convinced

that our kids will represent the excellent tradition of Holy Trinity track and field.
