The CARIFTA Games, which are based in the Caribbean, are a rite of passage for many U18 and U20 athletes from the islands, says former Trinidad & Tobago sprinter, NBC track and field analyst and former four-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon.

Legendary sprinters like Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce got their starts at this meet.

This year's games feature a talented array of dual-national athletes competing for their countries: Trinidad & Tobago's Khalifa St. Fort, 19, who went pro as a senior at Fort Lauderdale St. Aquinas (Fl.) High and was a member of the country's IAAF World Championship 4x100m bronze medal team in 2015; Trinidad & Tobago sprinter Sarah Wollaston, 18, who's a senior at Pembroke Pines (Fl.) Somerset Academy; and Jamaica's Briana Williams, 15, a freshman at Chaminade-Madonna (Fl.) Preparatory Academy, who will compete in the U18 bracket.

St. Fort, Wollaston and Williams will be running in the 100m and 200m races.

Miramar (Fl.) High's Jamal Walton will run for the Cayman Islands in the boys field. Walton will feature in the 400m run.
