American Heritage Star Anthony Schwartz Sprints To District Double In 10.21, 20.66

American Heritage speedster Anthony Schwartz proved once again why he is the one of the best high school sprinters in the world. At the Florida Relays, the junior ran a wind legal 10.15, the sixth fastest EVER in high school and fastest ever by a high schooler in the month of March.

On Thursday at the District 2A-15 Championships he opened up the finals with a time of 10.21. That mark gives him the top two times at that distance for an under 18 athlete in the world.

If that wasn't enough, the two sport standout came back and teamed up with his Patriots teammates to anchor the teams 4x100m relay to a 40.69 clocking and first place finish.

To close out the night or show, Schwartz pulled away from the field in the 200 and dropped a 20.66, which is second nationally and for U18 boys worldwide behind fellow South Florida star Tyrese Cooper who ran 20.55 at the Bob Hayes Invitational.

Schwartz told us after the race he felt just alright.

"I was a little hurt but had to pull through," he said. Now I need to work on my start in the 100 and my drive and finish in the 200."

What does his coach Greg Barnes think of his performance. Despite, the impressive numbers, he says it was a very low key meet and the goal was to work on the little things to perfect his race such as the first phase of his 100. He adds that his impact on the American Heritage team goes without saying.

"He's a quiet leader, not a rah rah guy," Barnes explained. It spreads over the whole my team. My girls and boys have a close knit team."

Barnes has seen his share of talent come through the program and believes that Schwartz has the skills and drive to go as far as he wants in the sport.

"I see him becoming a world class sprinter if he wants to be," he said. Anthony is the first kid I've seen be so consistent running the 100 meters and that's one of the things you have to do to become elite."

Schwartz isn't letting the success get to his head. He remains humble yet hungry hoping to hit 10.0 and 20.3 in the remaining weeks of the season. He says we should see some more fireworks in a matter of time.

"I just try my best and want all my hard work to pay off."
