Flo Golden South Boys Preview: Smart V. Valentine, Epic 800m & More

Boys Sprints/Hurdles Preview

Boys 200m Dash

Like the 100m dash the 200m is absolutely LOADED. Don't be surprised if 21.5 doesn't make it to the finals with names like Monte Parker, Jaariq Charles, Ryan Saint-Germain, Shaquan Woods, Steven Stallings, Roodolph Antoine, and more in the field.

Boys 400m Dash

The 400m dash boasts three of Florida's quarter-milers to have run 47s. Monte Parker is the baby of the group as just a sophomore, but he's the only one who owns a state title, winning the 2A crown in 2016. He finished third at state and third at regionals where he ran his best time of 47.68. Daeqwan Butler was third at Flo Golden South in 2016 behind Tyrese Cooper and Brandon Cachon and is hungry for the win especially after finishing second at regionals in 47.04 and not competing at the state meet. Lastly, Peter Anderson of Hallandale. The junior was a major factor in the Chargers team title by ONE point over American Heritage. Anderson ran 47.23 for a regional runner-up finish and two weeks later was runner-up at the 2A state meet in 47.30s.

Boys 400m Hurdles

The 110m hurdles is the Brooks PR automatic qualifier, but don't let that steal the thunder from the 400m hurdles. Yes, I said 400 meter hurdles, not the usual 300m distance contested in the state series. Chase Bonham of Raines is coming in as the 2A state champion for 300m hurdles and off of three straight  meets under 38s. He recently signed with NC A&T. St. Thomas Aquinas senior Justin Brown has three performances under 38s for the 300m distance and a third place finish at the 4A state meet. Joshua Ramirez of Cocoa might be the sleeper of the group. He was second at regionals and fifth at state, but if I know one thing about the Tiger's athletes it's that Coach Giscombe will have them ready on game day.
