Salute To Seniors: Bryce Duncan - Lake Region

The 2016-2017 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race of all my years had to be the 3A Region 2 300m hurdles race allowing me to qualify for state this year.

Who would you consider my biggest competition over the past four years?

I would have to say my biggest competition the past four years would have to say my team mate Josh. Although I had the form and he had the speed it would always come down to the final 100m of each race to show who would win the race. He always pushed me to run to the best of my capability no matter what the situation was and I thank him for that.

If I could do it all over again what would you do differently?

If I could do it all over again I would really focus more on speed my first two years rather than just form.

What was the most difficult obstacle you had to overcome?

I have to say the most difficult obstacle I had to over come not only on the track, but as well off was handling my diabetes correctly and making sure I was where I needed to be before every race. You would be surprised of how much of a difference a high or low blood sugar can change the result of each race if it's not where it needs to be.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my coaches the most out of everything. They have pushed me to become the runner I am today.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Train hard on the track and in the classroom.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

Coach JJ and Coach T have taught me so much these past four years each in their own ways. Together they have taught me patience is key and that you have to work for what you want and that it's not just given to you. I have to say it's the truest advice I have ever been given. The times from my freshman year to now have changed dramatically and I am thankful for that advice.

What are your college plans?

I plan on attending the University of South Florida and majoring in Nursing along with hopefully continuing my running career there as a walk on and earning the college scholarship I've been thriving for.

Who would you like to say than you to?

I would like to thank Coach T, Coach JJ, and my parents for giving me the opportunity to run high school track. If it wasn't for running track I don't know if I would be the person I am today.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Go Bulls!
