Boys Hurdlers Of The Year: Thomas Burns & Damion Thomas

Northeast's Thomas Tallies 3rd 110mH Crown, Makes Jamaica Team For Pan Am Juniors

While Thomas Burns forte is the 300m hurdles, his counterpart Damion Thomas of Northeast destroyed the competition in the sprint hurdles. The LSU signee started the year competing on the indoor circuit and adding two runner-up finishes in the 55m hurdles and 60m hurdles at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

Thomas went undefeated in sixteen 110m hurdle races this season including six times under 14 seconds and wins at Texas Relays and his third 3A state championship in four years. His 13.43s from Texas Relays is currently ranked the fourth best in the country for 2017.

The future Tiger who competes internationally for Jamaica will once again represent his country in the upcoming Pan American Junior Championships after winning the JAAA National Junior Trials in 13.53s.

Thomas won a Carifta Games gold medal in 2016 and was a member of the IAAF World U 20 Championships squad last year as well. His dad and coach, also named Damion Thomas, knows they have one more meet left.

"Damion is having a pretty good season so far. He has won all his 110mh races this season," he said. It was also a blessing for him to make it to the state finals in a separate individual event from the 110mh."
