GIRLS STATE RANKINGS
1A Girls State Championship Rankings

Team Rankings:
Commentary: Hard to believe 5 months of hard work, dedication and commitment will reach its climax on Saturday at the state meet! Congrats to all 24 teams who advanced out of their region meet to make it to the big one! Region 2 and Region 3 are highly competitive regions. Both regions have 5 teams advancing from these regions! I want to wish all of the teams and individuals the best of luck! We have all worked hard and deserve this moment .It has been fun for me to these rankings! After this weekend see everyone on the track!

1. (1) Citrus Park Christian = This team has been the top dog all season and looks like they are ready to win their first state title as a brand new school.
2. (2) Circle Christian = This team has been strong all season long. They won both the district title and region title and are peaking at the right time! They are my sentimental favorite to win!
3. (3) Oak Hall = Grace Blair will lead the Eagles into the state meet. The Eagles won their district and finished runner-up to Citrus Park Christian in the region meet.
4. (4) Maclay School = Scored a perfect 15 points at their district meet and nearly beat Providence by 3 points at the region meet.
5. (5) Providence = Very tough team to race against well coached and knows how to be ready for the big meets. They won their district and lost to Maclay for the region title.
6. (7) 1st Academy = Won their district and finished runner up in the highly competitive Region 3 meet.
7. (6) St. Joseph Academy = Team was second in their district and third in a very competitive region. Team is very solid!
8. (9) Canterbury School (Ft. Meyers) = Ready to pounce on their prey! Panthers won their district and finished 3rd in the Region of death-Region 2!
9. (10) Lakeland Christian = The Vikings finished 2nd to 1st Academy in the district meet and finished a strong 3rd in the Region 3 meet.
10. (14) Father Lopez = The Green wave finished 2nd in the district and a 5th place showing in their region. Will be led by Sophomore Claire McDonnelll who keeps getting faster and faster each week and learning how to compete in the big meets.
11. (12) Holy Trinity = Under their first year coach Sully won a district title and finished 4th in the region. Look for their number one 7th grader Carly McNatt to make some noise this weekend!
12. (8) Out of the Door Academy = Made lots of thunder at their district meet by winning it and finished 4th in the Region of death to advance.
13. (NR) Miami Country Day = Won both their district and region meet.
14. (11) King's Academy = Lions roared to a win for a district title and finished 2nd in their region to Miami County Day.
15. (15) Indian Rock Christian = Team finished 3rd in their district and squeezed it out of the Region 2 Meet. Tough team and showed they can compete with the best.

Individual Rankings:
Commentary: Best wishes to all the teams and individuals! Lots of new faces in the top 15! The new young ladies were behind the scenes throughout the season and saved their best for last at their district and region meets. Grace Blair will again win another state title! Who will follow in her running shoes the next couple of years will be determined on Saturday! May all the girls run 2/3 of the race with their feet and head and that last 1/3 with their hearts!

3. (1) Jacqueline Abanses, 9 - Citrus Park Christian (CPC) = Won the district and finished 2nd to Grace Blair at the region meet.
4. (6) Jessica Edwards, 9 - Canterbury Ft. Meyers = 2nd in the district meet and strong 3rd place finish in the Region of death (Region 2). Won both district and region title. Region course was a slow course
5. (8) Jasmine Hincapie, 10 - Westminster Academy = Won both district and region title. This young lady is very competitive and will hang with the best.
6. (10) Carly McNatt, 7 - Holy Trinity = Won district title and runner up in the region meet! This young lady is the real deal!
7. (NR) Claire McDonnell, 10 - Father Lopez = Sentimental favorite of Coach O'Malley! Has cut 6 minutes off of her time since her freshman year! Finished 3rd in both district and region meets. Region meet she set her PR of 19:59! Beginning to have confidence and learn how to race in the big meets.
8. (12) Sydnee Calder, 8 - Boca Raton Christian = Ran her PR of 19:03 at the district meet to win it and finished 2nd in the region meet behind Jasmine Hincapie. Placed 10th last year!
9. (4) Lydia Friedman, 10 - Citrus Park = 2nd in the districts and 4th in the region meet.
10. (5) Brooke Santiesteban, 12 - Citrus Park = 3rd in Districts and 5th and the region. Will be the third CPC runner in the top 15 to help the team win the state title.
11. (NR) Audrey Wood, 11 - Providence = Very tough competitor. Won both the district and region meets. Possibly sneek into the top 10!
12. (9) Brooke Mcewen, 10 - Circle Christian = Runner up in the district meet and 4th in the region. This young lady will possibly sneek into the top the 10! Placed 7th last year!
13. (NR) Laura McGaffic ,7 - Miami County Day = First year runner making some noise this season! Won the district title and placed 3rd in the region meet.
14. (NR) Laura Jones,8 - Chiefland = Finishes 2nd t Grace Blair in the district meet and turns around this past weekend to set a new PR of 20:02 at the region meet to finish 6th. She is one of 5 runners on her team.
15. (NR) Olivia Watt, 12 - Marco Island = Won the district title and 7th in region 2 meet to advance.

Commentary: Good luck to all the teams at states! Sorry for the late post but Family First.

1. (1) Pine Crest HS = this team has won every big invitational they have entered this year. they have been going through 2A no problem this year beating some of our top ten teams handily. With Schawartz and Lawlor about to break into 19's this season this team is deep in talent on the varsity squad.
2. (2) Montverde Academy = has racked up a win against some tough competition throughout the year, and beat trinity Prep at regionals. I think this team could give pine crest a good run.
3. (3) Bolles HS = Easy win at regionals, without their leader running (don't know if she is or not) it will be hard to get the top two contenders.
4. (5) Satellite HS = Got second just in front of St. Brendan without one of their better runners. The pack is tight and gives them a narrow edge over trinity prep and STB.
5. (4) Trinity Prep = 2nd to Montverde, but beat Tavares by 40 pts. Well coached and definitely have a strong closing mile by the front two in any race I've seen so far.
6. (6) St. Brendan = Placed 3rd in a highly competitive region 4. Just behind satellite. With a strong showing from #5 could have a chance at top 5 finish
7. (15) Cardinal Gibbons = first I would like to apologize, I slept on you. Great race at regions finishing less than 10 points behind STB. Could upset some people
8. (13) Tavares = Placed 3rd in the region. Could be in the hunt but the split from needs to be lower than it has been throughout the year
9. (NR) Berkeley Prep = Regional champion by tie breaker over Holy names, Good job to the number 6-7 for running hard and getting the W.
10. (16) Holy Names = lost by a heart break but if Hughes runs the way I believe she will could easily be #8 on this list.

3A Girls State Championship Rankings

Commentary: The rankings are now based on times and performances at the four regional meets since many district meets were on little-known and/or very fast courses, producing unreliable times. Regional times will be adjusted as follows to prevent ranking skew: Region 1, 2, and 4 - times for these regions fell in the expected range and will not be adjusted. Region 3 -- Estero Park is a normally slow course and 20 seconds will be deducted from these times. Team averages are given for reference only and are not the only basis for rankings, and do not follow them completely -- course conditions, head to head competition, and team depth is also considered.

1. (1) Chiles, 1, 19:05. It's hard to envision anyone beating the Timberwolves for the top spot, especially since the state meet is held on their home course.
2. (2) Creekside, 1, 19:45. The Knights rely on three somewhat inconsistent freshmen, so catching Chiles is not likely. They have beaten Niceville in all three meets they ran against the Eagles, so they should claim the runner-up spot.
3. (3) Niceville, 1, 19:58. The Eagles have a veteran core from last year's championship squad and a top freshman, but have sleep-walked through the season and don't seem to have the fire in the belly needed to win championships. They could go higher than third, but it's not likely.
4. (4) Ponte Vedra, 1, 20:14. The Sharks have a pretty solid grip on the fourth spot, but don't have the horses to move higher.
5. (5) Osceola (Seminole), 3, 20:48 (-20). The Warriors won Region 3 and are pretty solid for the fifth spot.
6. (7) Ft. Walton Beach, 1, 20:19. The Vikings ran a great race to take fifth at Region 1, but it's not clear if they can repeat that performance at state.
7. (9) Matanzas, 2, 21:06. The Pirates won Region 2 using a tight front pack of three and look good heading into the state meet.
8. (10) Nease, 1, 20:54. The Panthers were the surprise in Region 1, knocking off Leon to claim the last spot.
9. (14) Ocala Vanguard, 2, 21:11. The Knights ran well taking second in the Region 2 meet.
10. (20) Naples, 3, 21:06 (-20). The inconsistent Eagles have put together two good meets in a row, and could make the top ten with another good meet.
11. (NR) Charlotte, 3, 21:28 (-20). The up-and-down Tarpons took third at the Region 3 meet, but could also finish outside the top 15 at State.
12. (7) Ft. Myers, 3, 21:22 (-20). The Green Wave have been a mystery for most of the season, so this is the best guess for them.
13. (21) South Fork, 4, 21:19. The Bulldogs looked good winning the Region 4 meet.
14. (11) Cape Coral, 3, 21:42 (-20). The Seahawks placed fifth behind Ft. Myers at the Region 3 meet.
15. (12) Miami Northwestern, 4, 21:41. The Bulls have slipped a little in the last two meets and were second in the Region 4 meet.
Other teams to watch out for:
16. (24) Sunlake, 2, 21:53. The Seahawks looked impressive winning the District 7 meet, but drifted backward at the Region 2 meet.
17. (NR) Gulf Coast, 3, 21:57 (-20). The Sharks have been on the verge of being ranked all year, and finally got it by knocking off Estero and Robinson at the Region 3 meet.
18. (18) Harmony, 2, 21:45. The Longhorns went out hard and held on for the fourth spot in Region 2.
19. (13) Land O'Lakes, 2, 21:34. The Gators have a strong 1-2 punch, but a weak 3-4-5 limit how high they can finish at State.
20. (15) Viera, 4, 21:58. The Hawks finished third in the Region 4 meet.
21. (22) West Shore, 4, 22:01. The Wildcats' dependence on middle schoolers limit how high they can finish.
22. (NR) Mater Academy, 4, 22:02. Weak 4 and 5 runners limit the Lions' chances of finishing higher.
23. (NR) Mitchell, 2, 22:20. The Mustangs also have a weak 4 and 5 and are not likely to finish higher.
24. (NR) Dillard, 4, 22:10. The Panthers were the surprise of Region 4, upsetting higher-ranked Merritt Island and Reagan/Doral. They may be set up for a bit of a letdown at State.
Individual Rankings:
Commentary: The regional meet times and the course adjustments are being used in the same way as in the team rankings. The regional meet time is listed, but is not the sole factor in rankings - head to head competition, and consistency in times is also considered.

2. (2) Natalie Abernathy, 11, Land O'Lakes, 18:44. The Region 2 champ likes to go out fast and lead her races. Look for her to lead early, but get caught and passed by a surging Wallace.
3. (5) Valerie Lastra, 10, Mater Academy, 18:34. Last year's runner-up has steadily improved after a late start recovering from an injury. Expect her to run with Abernathy and possibly hang in with Wallace much longer than expected.
4. (3) Claire Openshaw, 10, Creekside, 18:45. The Region 1 runner-up will be among the leaders.
5. (6) Alayna Goll, 12, Estero, 19:14 (-20). The Region 3 champ should improve on her Pre-State time.
6. (10) Claire Moritz, 12, Ponte Vedra, 18:56. Fourth at Region 1, and is a fairly consistent runner.
7. (13) Kambry Smith, 9, Ft. Walton Beach, 18:55. Third at Region 1, but has had freshman consistency issues.
8. (8) Emily Culley, 11, Chiles, 19:05. Expect her to run well on her home course.

1. (1) Mount Dora Christian = Class of the State -- barring disaster, should win State title -- hungry after finishing 2nd last year
2. (2) Citrus Park = Solid pick for 2nd at State -- but huge drop off from 5th to 6th man -- so no room for error
3. (4) Providence = running well -- great pack with 49 second 1-5 split -- solid team winner of Region 1
4. (6) Maclay = great end of season team -- 2nd to Providence in Region 1
5. (5) Northside Christian = surprisingly strong team this fall -- much improved over last year's team (19th at State)
6. (9) Blountstown = probably the biggest surprise in 1A at Regionals -- took 3rd in Region 1, defeating Top 10 ranked teams St. Joseph's Academy and Bishop Snyder
7. (7) Bishop Snyder = perennial Top 10 team -- running well last 2 weeks -- led by seniors Aldren Biala and Jack Randall
8. (8) St. Joseph's = good season but a little off last 2 weeks (missing Luke Lemaire at Regionals)
9. (12) Palmer Trinity = Fairly easy win at Regionals with a 51 second 1-5 split
10. (3) King's Academy = Finished 24th place team at State last year... much, much improved
11. (NR) Marathon = 3rd at State meet last year -- not quite as good as 2016 but should be Top 10 team Saturday
12. (11) Oak Hall = won tiebreaker with cross-town Gainesville rival PK Yonge for 3rd in Region 2
13. (10) PK Yonge = Solid team much improved over last year's team which placed 20th at State
14. (NR) Seffner Christian = McKenzie brothers put them on the map -- but lacking depth behind #3 runner
15. (NR) Indian Rocks = No big stars, but a good pack and chance for a Top 10 team finish

1. (1) Bolles HS = with a :56 1-5 split at regionals and a win over two good teams in the region this team is my pick to win.
2. (2) Satellite = best pack running in the state, and probably the most consistent team In the state.
3. (4) Trinity Prep = The tail end of the group is slightly stronger than Kenny just putting them on top.
4. (3) Bishop Kenny = With a break out run from anyone in the pack behind Jubran this team could get as high as second.
5. (5) South Walton = Narrowly on top of Wakulla, if they can bring the pack a bit closer together this team can defiantly hold their top 5 status.
6. (6) Cocoa Beach = A tight pack of under 40 seconds I believe that this team can easily break into the top 5.
7. (7) Lake Highland Prep = Best 1-5 of :39 at regions, beating a good Tavares team.
8. (12) Tavares = 3rd in region 2 if 4-7 can bring the group together could climb up quickly.

Commentary: Now it's time to perform.
Rank. School (Previous Rank) (Region) - Comments
1. Chiles (2) (R1) -- I made the switch as the 11th hour to Chiles winning. Why? All 3 top teams had dominant victories at Regions. What can I say, Chiles has been here every year that I can remember and that experience is the difference? The 5th runner may be the key holder once again for win or 2nd place
2. Ocala Vanguard HS (1) (R2) -- Only reason for perhaps the drop from pole position is the October schedule. Easy victories every race all way thru Regions. Will lack of high end competition hurt or hinder them? Really your guess is as good as mine…..
3. Belen Jesuit (3) (R4) -- Have them as solid 3rd, perhaps 2nd if their 2-3 runners align with top 2 teams. Been most consistent team all season with tight splits but will it be enough to crack the podium on Saturday.
4. Niceville (8) (R1) -- 2nd place in Region 1 warrants 4th place in State meet. As said previously 4th-8th is seconds apart. Great team all season and always runs well at end of year
5. Creekside (4) (R1) -- This team always seems to cruise thru Regions and then peak perfect for States. This year will be no difference. Could knock on top 3 door
6. Fort Myers (6) (R3) -- Won in a very strong Region 3 with their tight pack. And could also jump to 4th very easily.
7. Estero -- (5) (R3) -- Exact same average as Myers in Region race. If their 5th runner can run with 4th then they jump to 5th. It's so close and so exciting
8. New Smyrna Beach (7) (R2) -- Very impressive mid to late season results with another consistent performance in Region. 3-5 runners need to make that move up charts all way to 4th
9. Bartram Trail (10) (R1) -- Another State meet, another visit by Bartram. They need to book the hotels for this weekend for next 10 years.
10. Ponte Vedra (13) (R1) -- 3rd place in Region 1 just 2 seconds behind Niceville. Been getting faster all year long and snuck into top 10 for final rankings. Will they justify their spot with host of teams right behind them.

Commentary: There are so many story lines heading into the final race of the season -- will the champion come from one of the season long favorites or will a different team put together a great run and surprise everyone? Is the tight pack of Steinbrenner going to be enough to overtake the front runners from Oviedo or will the defending State Champions from St. Thomas Aquinas stay atop the podium? Regardless of what happens this Saturday, all of the teams that made it to Tallahassee are to be commended for a fantastic season. I wish everyone has safe travels, great weather, and an even better race!

2. Oviedo High (3) = they are all coming together at the right time and will push Steinbrenner.
3. St. Thomas Aquinas (4) = the defending champs are always tough this time of year.
4. Newsome (7) = Region 2 Champion will need another great effort to get on the podium.
5. Sarasota (8) = Lowest team average in the toughest region race puts them in a good position.
6. Lyman (10) = 1-2 punch helped them improve from the district race.
7. Lake Mary (5) = had their worst race of the season at region, they can make some noise this week.

Commentary: I have had the pleasure of watching most of these guys run during the season and the beauty of this week is that anybody on this list is capable of winning the title. Hartvigsen has been dominant for most of the season but so has numerous other guys. With so many quality boys in one race it is going to make for one great race to end the day on Saturday.
