Tis The Season: Foot Locker Finalist Alyssa Hendrix Wins Lakewood Ranch Jingle Ball Run

The cool temperatures, holiday spirit, and competitive nature couldn't stop Riverview sophomore Alyssa Hendrix from getting in one more 5k before the end of the year. Hendrix, who was 18th at Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego two weeks ago, was back at it at the Lakewood Ranch Jingle Ball Run.

She tore through the field over 1,200 athletes to win easily with a time of 18:05 on the asphalt course Friday night. Coach Stephen Dunn, who brought the rest of his HTTR Tornadoes team to the meet said Hendrix had only run once with the group since Foot Locker.

"I just wanted to see what would happen and how she would feel," he added. "This is a race I've had the Tornadoes training group do for the last five years."

"It makes for a great end of season run, real light and festive. They train hard for months so nice to feel free to do as they please. We are preparing for track and this is way to refresh the batteries but still stay sharp."
