3A Girls Rankings:

By Andy Holmes, Seffner Christian aholmes@scacrusaders.com

We know plenty more after the first week of competition. For starters, Chiles is as good as advertised in winning the Katie Caples Invitational. The top 5 remains largely unchanged as teams have solidified their places among the elite in 3A Girls competition. Several teams make their debut in our 2nd week fo rankings, including Lakewood Ranch, which went from being unranked preseason to being #4 after winning the Mountain Dew Invitational. Many of the top ranked teams were at the big meets (Mountain Dew, Katie Caples, Mitchell, and Washington Wildcat) while others made noise at the smaller meets- like Lake region who finished a close second to 1A powerhouse at the Winter Haven Invitational. These times are based solely on week 1 performances, and not any preseason classic jamborees after the week 1 rankings came out. Team scores are based on average times, and individual scores are based on race times. I did this all by hand without looking at computer rankings, so we will see how it matches up. Yes, some of the individual and team rankings could be adjusted to factors such as easy or difficult course, but I do not think there were that many easy course races this week i.e. Mitchell, Mountain Dew. Here they are- enjoy!

Team Rankings:

1. Chiles 1 Won Katie Caples by over 40 points, placing 4 in the top 10
2. Fort Walton Beach 2 Easily won Washington Wildcat Invitational- against some good out-of-state competition
3. Creekside 3 5th at Katie Caples against a stacked field
4. Lakewood Ranch NR The big surprise thus far- winning the Mountain Dew Invitational, led by standout Kristin Zarrella
5. Fort Myers 4 4th at Mountain Dew Invitational
6. Ridgeview 5 9th at Katie Caples
7. Bartram Trail 15 10 at Katie Caples
8. Lake Region NR Close 2nd to Lakeland Christian at Winter Haven Invitational
9. Wiregrass Ranch 12 Won Mitchell Invitational- without their #4 and #5 runners- look out!
10. Niceville 9 5th at Washington Wildcat Invitational
11. South Fork NR Finished 2nd at their Home meet and then made a strong showing of 6th at the Mountain Dew Invitational
12. Lemon Bay NR 3rd at Venice Invitational, with 4 in the top 25
13. Naples NR A close 4th behind Lemon Bay at Venice Invitational
14. Viera NR 11th of 34 teams at a loaded Astronaut Invitational

4A Girls Rankings:

By: Coach Ryan Raposo, John A. Ferguson HS - rraposo@dadeschools.net

Commentary: After a ridiculously fast first week, this has to be the craziest shake up of rankings I've seen in my 4 seasons as a pollster. College football has nothing on this! I think it would be foolish to completely dismiss certain teams who didn't have strong showings, so I will acknowledge them. Also, because of multiple "fast courses", night races and great race conditions; I won't change most rankings based on team averages assuming that the majority of the races were similar (fast) conditions.
