2A Girls Rankings:

Commentary: Bishop Kenny reclaims the top spot after defeating Bolles at regionals.  Bolles' depth and tighter pack could be the difference for them at a more competitive and deeper state meet.  Miami Carrollton comes out from under the radar at the region 4 meet, and Pine Crest suffers heartbreak by not advancing to the state meet. Region 4 individuals dominate the top 10 positions with Stephanie Schappert favored for the win and teammate Olivia Fay also in the top 5.  Congratulations to all the teams and individuals and good luck at the state championship!

3A Girls Rankings:

Commentary: Wow- this season has flown by- at least for me. Thanks to the coaches of 3A Girls for the opportunity to be your pollster for this year. The Team Rankings are the predicted order of finish at the State Meet. There were some surprises at the Regional meets, as teams such as George Jenkins and Lemon Bay were able to make it to state with great performances. No surprise winners with any of the regions. The state title is Chiles' to lose. Fort Walton Beach has the best shot to pull off the upset, but look for them to fight it out with Fort Myers and Lakewood Ranch for State Runner-Up. Lily Williams is the predicted individual winner for state- if so, she would go wire-to-wire in the polls for the title. Good luck to all coaches and athletes, and see you on Saturday!

4A Girls Rankings:

By: Coach Ryan Raposo, John A. Ferguson HS - rraposo@dadeschools.net

Commentary: Another fun year has ended ranking the 4A Girls and I hope everyone has enjoyed at least some of what I have put together. On the forum I have put the mock meet scoring so everyone can see the final team rankings (in a statistical fashion) with placing and even team spread. Enjoy one last time and good luck this Saturday ladies!
Forum Rankings: 4A Girls Mock Meet Results- https://fl.milesplit.com/forums/Florida/topics/65527

Team Rankings:

Team Name, Region -  (Prev.) Comments:
1. Winter Park, 2-  (1) 19:07 Avg, This is the Wildcats meet to lose for the 2nd year in a row as they are the heavy favorite regardless of their inconsistent #5 (who could still be a top 15 finisher on a good day). Why they'd win: This is still the only team who has regularly shown they can put 4 runners in the top 10-15. Why'd they lose: They all fall down a couple of times while another team decides to PR by over 30 seconds. LOL! Mock Meet Score: 54 points.
2. Our Lady of Lourdes, 4-  (2) 19:37 Avg, The Bobcats have the talent through the #4 spot to show up and beat anyone, but this is a 5 person race. Why they'd win: The get a miraculous performance from their #4-5 seniors who run with their teammates. Why'd they lose: Their top 3 leave the 4-5 behind and really string out their pack. Their large spread this year is very uncharacteristic of the past. Mock Meet Score: 105
3. Melbourne, 1-  (3) 19:39 Avg, The Bulldogs are coming up strong from that sleeper position which they have done many a time before, so be on the look out! Why they'd win: These girls just know how to get it done when it comes time for state and always peak properly. Why they'd lose: They just don't have the strength in their top 3 or the 4-5 depth that WP or OLOL has. Mock Meet Score: 107
4. Plant, 2- (4) 20:01 Avg, They were my dark horse all season and the young Panthers have done a heck of a job climbing to the ranks of the could be contenders. Mock Meet Score: 166
5. Vero Beach, 1-  (6) 20:16 Avg, The battle for top five is tight with a couple of other teams. They need a big push from their upperclassmen to stay here. Mock Meet Score: 228
6. Sarasota Riverview, 2-  (5) 20:26 Avg, They've run their butts off all season and should have solidified a top ten spot, but with top five in range, we know that their goal should be. Oh yeah, and they have the 2nd fastest spread in the state at :40 seconds. Mock Meet Score: 237
7. Wharton, 2- (7) 20:20 Avg, Also in the top five hunt, they're the only team in the top 15 with over a 2 minute spread. Close that and they'll be where they need to be. Mock Meet Score: 247
8. Flagler Palm Coast, 1- (14) 20:30 Avg, FPC had a tremendous day at the Region but they need to hold it for one more week! There is a battle for top ten that could be knocking on their door. Mock Meet Score: 272
9. St. Thomas Aquinas, 3-  (10) 20:37 Avg, Staying strong through the smaller rounds, expect the new 4A rival to try and hold their top ten spot. Mock Meet Score: 311
10. Winter Springs, 1-  (15) 20:39 Avg, Another team with a super strong Region that needs to hold strong for one more week. They round out the top ten, but less than 15 points is the only thing separating them and four other teams. Mock Meet Score: 313
11. Spanish River, 3-  (8) 20:46 Avg, After being 12th last season you know that Coach Rothman wants to be back in the record books in the top ten. The question is do the girls want it bad enough? Mock Meet Score: 321
12. Hagerty, 1- (12) 20:49 Avg, Here is your best back team in the state at :25 seconds. If these girls have a strong day, then watch out top five! Mock Meet Score: 323
13. Dr. Phillips, 2-  (11) 20:42 Avg, After finishing by a hair in the top ten last year, DP's squad only has a small gap that they need to cross to get back there but that gap is filled with a few teams in the way. Mock Meet Score: 325
14. Mandarin, 1- (9) 20:48 Avg, I know they're excited to make it out of one of the tougher Regions in the State, but stay strong girls and try to work your way up to top ten! Mock Meet Score: 340
15. Timber Creek, 2- (NR) 20:47 Avg, The final qualifier from the new Region of Death, they should hold top 15 securely, but could bust out with a top ten finish if they can reduce that spread. Mock Meet Score: 350
16. West Broward, 3- (18) 21:07 Avg, Mock Meet Score: 416
17. Park Vista, 3- (16) 21:07 Avg, Mock Meet Score: 424
18. South Dade, 4- (20) 21:16 Avg, Mock Meet Score: 450
19. Cypress Bay, 3- (17) 21:19 Avg, Mock Meet Score: 450 (lose on #6)
20. Miami Sunset, 4- (21) 21:25 Avg, Mock Meet Score: 494
21. Ferguson, 4- (23) 21:26 Avg, Mock Meet Score: 494 (lose on #6)
22. Wellington, 3- (NR) 21:38 Avg, Mock Meet Score: 510
23. Coral Reef, 4- (24) 22:14 Avg, Mock Meet Score: 601
24. Miami Killian, 4- (22) 22:37 Avg, Mock Meet Score: 659 (w/o their #1)
Note: While most of the teams, outside of the top 7 ranked teams, has drastically reduced their overall team averages compared to years past, still notice how Regions 3 and 4 still hold the final 9 State Rankings. Good job SoFla, but we're still not there yet! And for the north teams, be grateful of your cooler weather as that really is a large factor of it all.

Commentary: We have finally reached the pinnacle of the 2009 XC season. This is why these young runners have logged thousands of miles since the end of track season. The State Meet is this Saturday and the individual and team races are going to be wars. The top 3 individuals battling it out have put up some gaudy times this fall. Patrick Swain, the defending champ has run 16:07 15:52 and 15:50 this fall. David Kilgore has raced to 15:56, 15:40 and 15:37 while Griffin smoked a 15:43 at Florida Runners. I just can't see anyone being able to run away from Swain and he is just too strong to get run down coming up the final hill. P Swain will repeat as State Champion in 15:45 with Kilgore right on his heels in 15:52. The team race is a battle between the usual suspects. Holy Trinity and Trinity Prep are the class of 1A. PKY has a great young pack that is going to be tough in years to come but lack the fire power up top to run with the top 2. In the end Holy Trinity will have the edge with their #5 runner which it always comes down to between these two teams.

2A Boys Rankings:

Commentary: Bishop Kenny has been the favorite all season to capture their seventh state title, but will need to have strong performances from their 3 to 5 runners to hold off Estero, Arch Bishop McCarthy and Ransom Everglades. The 2nd podium spot should be a battle with these teams as well as Berkeley Prep and Nease. The individual race should be exciting again with Defending 2A CC State Champion Michael Wallace ( and 2008 3200 m Champion), 2009 3200 m Champion State Colin Barker, 3 time Track and CC runner up Erik Montoya and the underdog superstar Tyler Davidson. Should a BK runner claim the gold it would extend the State Record of Individual Champions by one school to 8, it will not be easy though.  Good luck to the teams and individuals in 2A! See you at the Ranch!

Commentary: Take a deep breath. Relax.. BOOM!!!! These are my State Rankings…..

Team Rankings:
    Prev. Comments:
1. Dr. Phillips (1st) This team is steamrolling through, leading the state with an unhealthy Novian. If Novian gets healthy in time for Saturday this is an unstoppable machine.
2. Columbus (2nd) The Hellions seem to have put together a great resume this season, look for them to have a solid showing at the State meet.
3. Ferguson (4th) The Falcons got this high in the rankings thanks to its top 4, but the 5th man needs to come through big if they are going have a good day at the ranch .
4. Winter Park (5th) This is as well coached a team as there is, and with its tradition, it knows how to win. Look for the Park to have a big impact at the show.
5. Melbourne (6th) Call this a sneaking suspicion, but  Watch out for a tremendous performance by Melbourne at States.  BOOM!!! That 1-2 punch made a big showing at the region meet, and it looks like 3,4,5 have improved.
6. Plant  (3rd) If Plant is on and plays up to its speed, athleticism, and talent, few teams in the state can match their skill. Watch for Plant to have a big day at States
7. Lyman (7th) The greyhounds are starting to run great and at just the right time. They are doing a solid job .
8. Hialeah Miami Lakes (NR) This team has been running better and better each week; they deserve and should be a top ten team they are trully good enough to run with anyone.
9. Chamberlain (8th) Chamberlain is putting themselves in a nice position to potentially be a top team with  1-3  is running, solid.
