3A Girls Rankings:

Commentary: So what is new after the first full week of the cross country season? The top 10 have not changed a whole lot. Lakewood Ranch and Chiles are going to be neck and neck the whole season. Looking forward to their head-to-head at Pre-State in a preview of their forthcoming state meet showdown. There are a number of schools not far behind- namely FWB and Niceville, which boasts 4 of their top 6 runners as freshman. A lot of good head-to-head matchups took place this past weekend at UF Mountain Dew Invitational, Wildcat Invitational, and Katie Caples. There are also a host of schools that did not make the top 15 that are on my "watch list". Those schools are, in no particular order: King, Vanguard, Harmony, Naples, Charlotte, Bartram Trail, Viera, Oviedo, Osceola, and Gulf Coast. They would be in my unofficial top 25.

Commentary: So the first full week of Cross Country season has passed and there have been some new and impressive performances by both teams and individuals. While it's still very early on, it appears that Lourdes and Plant are holding strong; after that there looks to be a lot of team shifting throughout the season. Also, Region 3 needs to step it up with some more big meet performances! Other than the top 3 teams, everyone else has basically been in hiding, but we should hopefully see a few this weekend at Spanish River.

I tried to place the most emphasis on head-to-head results, but that might not always workout when comparing multiple performances.

3A Boys Rankings:
By: David Gardner, Timber Creek HS- david.gardner@ocps.net

Team Rankings:
Team Name, Region -  (Prev.)  Comments:
1. BELEN JESUIT (MIAMI) # 1 REGION 4 (2) The Wolverines were obviously not too happy about their 2nd place ranking preseason week.  They proved to everyone at Gainesville they're the team to beat in 3A, however if it wasn't for the fab freshman Magoulas this team would be dead even with Charlotte.  You know what I said about a foot race in the end...
2. CHARLOTTE  (PUNTA GORDA)  # 1 REGION 3 (1) After a subpar performance in the muddy waters at FACA, the fighting Tarps swam their way back into contention at The Dew.  They need a strong showing from their 4-5 to give Belen a run in the end.  It’s a long season…
3. BOOKER T. WASHINGTON (PENSACOLA)# 1 REGION 1 (4) I guess rankings on paper don't lie…the only thing stopping this group from securing the Top spot is a #1 punch and a stronger #5.  A 16:42 AVG at the Wildcat Invite makes them viable contenders in Dade City this year.
4. LEON (TALLAHASSEE) # 2 REGION 1 (3) Leon's seniors are on the prowl early, but Stafford desperately needs to find his pride if Leon's hopes for a 4-Peat are in order.  With the lowest 1-5 split, if the Lions improve together the TOP 3 are easy prey.
5. FORT WALTON  BEACH (FT. WALTON BCH) # 3 REGION 1 (6) The Boys from FWB just edged out a determined Niceville crew last week at the Wildcat Invite.  The problem for them right now is the lack of frontrunners, however if Dearmon and Ammons set sail, the Vikes ship may be too far away for teams to catch this year.
6. NICEVILLE (NICEVILLE) #4 REGION 1 (13) The Eagles have gone from naughty to "Nice" in one quick week.  It doesn't hurt when you bring in two stud freshman (Howell and Morken) who fill your Top 5.  Experience will be the key question as The 'Ville moves forward, but with a solid amount of depth the sky is the limit for this squad.
7. WIREGRASS RANCH (WESLEY CHAPEL)  # 1 REGION 2 (5) The Ranch had high hopes for this season, but with the mysterious set back to Pulsifer the journey to the TOP 5 has been halted…for now.  This squad could still stampede come State time.  As long as they keep the herd together and Riley keeps leading a State title could be in the reigns.
8. CHILES (TALLAHASSEE)  #5 REGION 1 (7) The Wolves "One man wolf pack" is still going strong, although the recent surge of Seniors Sutton and Vannoy have lightened the load for their younger pups. Buzzard is still the Alpha for Chiles, but needs to lead his 4-5 to better results if this pack wants a taste of the Top 5 this year.
9. LAND O LAKES (LAND O LAKES) # 2 REGION 2 (18) Is it really any surprise that Coach K has another stacked squad?  Get ready for these guys to play the underdog all year, but I think this group doesn't mind.  The Gators just keeping on getting better and it won't stop until Dade City.  The emergence of two solid freshman means this group could make a run for Top 5 honors in the end.
10. BARTRAM TRAIL (ST. JOHNS) # 6 REGION 1 (12) Big Brother Bartram is the last one in from the Region of Torture.  Unfortunately for Creekside they are left at home again to hear about how Jimmy "did his thang".  The Trail have a solid 1-2 punch, but will need their 3,4,5 to step up if they want to avoid a nail biting finish at Region.
11. FT. MYERS (FT. MYERS) # 2 REGION 3 (11)
12. NATURE COAST TECH (BROOKSVILLE) # 3 REGION 2 (19)
13. ST. CLOUD (ST. CLOUD) #2 REGION 4 (14)
14. CREEKSIDE (ST. JOHNS) # 7 REGION 1, OUT OF STATE CHAMP.  (10)
15. GEORGE JENKINS (LAKELAND) # 4 REGION 2 (NR)
16. NAVARRE (NAVARRE) #8 REGION 1,  OUT OF STATE CHAMP (17)
17. RIDGEVIEW (ORANGE PARK) # 9 REGION 1, OUT OF STATE CHAMP. (NR)
18. OVIEDO (OVIEDO) # 5 REGION 2 (20)
19. OCALA VANGUARD (OCALA)  #10 REGION 1, OUT OF STATE CHAMP. (8)
20. LINCOLN (TALLAHASSEE) # 11 REGION 1, OUT OF STATE CHAMP. (NR)

Individual Rankings:
Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1.  Jimmy Clark, Creekside  (1) He's still Superman in 3A.  With a 15:18 at Katie Caples, I'm likely to believe the speeding bullet loses this race.
2.  Elliot Clemente, Belen Jesuit  (2) A 15:30 at The Dew is still just short of Clark's Kryptonite.
3.  Tyler Cardillo, Charlotte  (5) My dark horse of the season is now riding into the light after a stellar performance at The Dew
4.  Will Bridges, Edgewater  (10) He's Back…Bridges is healthy and ready to "Draw" himself closer to the TOP 3
5.  Alex Foss, George Jenkins (18) Domo Arigato... No assembly required for this Robot…Foss may be Boss this year.
6.  Kamal Korso, Terry Parker (3) The fact that he has no results can't keep Korso out of the TOP 10 unless an injury has surfaced
7.  Joseph Lindsay, Belen Jesuit (12) Lindsay gets the lucky 7th spot here, edging out Schnulle by 3/100 of a second.  The team title may come down to just that.
8.  Ryan Schnulle, Charlotte (NR) I told you I wasn't crazy, with the help of Schnulle Charlotte is a legit contender for the State Title.
9.  Jacob Kotick, Booker T. Washington  (NR) Not the Wildcat you were expecting here, a 16:22 to open the season makes Kotick a contender.
10.  Quincy O' Connor, Celebration  (NR) A Manhattan Mystery??? Does this new kid on the block have "The Right Stuff"…we will see.
11.  Taylor Buzzard, Chiles (NR) 16:28 at Katie Caples
12.  Anthony Borrego, Charlotte (NR) 16:32 at Mountain Dew
13.  Peter Fricke, Booker T. Washington (9) 16:32 at Wildcat Invite
14.  Riley Doherty, Leon (4) 16:33 at Carrollton Invite
15.  Harsha Torke, Viera (7) 16:39 at a slow Astronaut Invite
16.  Thomas Arnold, Booker T. Washington (NR) 16:33 at Wildcat Invite
17.  Ian Bordelon, Booker T. Washington (20) 16:33 at Wildcat Invite
18.  Josh Reilly, Wiregrass Ranch (NR) 16:34 at Mitchell Invite
19.  John Hazelton, Leon (19) 16:38 at Carrollton Invite
20  Kolby Watson, Ridgewood (NR) 16:40 at Mitchell Invite

4A Boys Rankings:
By: Jorge Fleitas, Columbus HS - jfleitas@columbushs.com

Team Rankings:
  Team Name -  (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Columbus (1) They have a chance to show they are the all class Florida  #1 with a trip to Great American but only time will tell
2. Colonial (5) You have to love those young guns so far, they seem to be the only team that can make a move on Columbus
3. Dr. Phillips (2)  They will get their chance to really make a statement in Alabama at SE Showdown.
4. HB Plant (3) It took one week to get the vultures off their backs after FACA.Plant will not stay down for long, look for them to have a good showing at flrunners.
5. John I Leonard (4) Pickering and Charles makes John I Leonard a threat and the darkhorse every Race.
6. Winter Park (9) That was quite a bounce back performance from FACA. All those ready to bury the Park might want to put the shovels back in the garage. They're just fine and I see them moving into the top 5 before its all over
7. Buchholz (NR) Surprise, surprise. Chris Godwin has been running impresive, making them the early-season surprise.
8. Spruce Creek (11) This was another surprise team opening up the season big with a win over Hagerty at Astronaut Invite
9. Boone (7) You want proof of value with John Logan Hines this team can finish in the top 5 without him they could fall out of the top 10.
10. Hagerty (NR) They've already taken major steps forward in this program to be a top 10 team and It seems its going to be that kind of season.
