FACA Pollster's Official XC Post-Flrunners 11 Rankings! *Update #2*

As we move into week 4 of the season with the largest meet of the year behind us, the Flrunners 11 Invitational, we should now have a pretty solid breakdown for all of our FACA Rankings. There were many fast races, many great head-to-head performances and the excitement for how this season will all turn out keeps building each week. So without further delay (already being a little bit behind due to erroneous results), here is the 3rd set [of 7] rankings as put together by our volunteer pollsters!

3A Girls Rankings:
By: Andy Holmes, Seffner Christian Academy- aholmes@scacrusaders.com

Commentary: This past weekend saw great competition, with many of the top schools competing at flrunners.com, and others competing at Bale 'n Trail, and LOL Invite. With the head-to-head competition at these meets, the front--runners in 3A have made themselves know. This week I am going top 25 in the team rankings, so we can get a better picture of what teams will be qualifying for state. I want to emphasize that there is quite a bit of parity in the teams I have ranked 10-25. I also took a good look at the 1-5 split of each of the teams that were ranked, to see where they fall.

4A Girls Rankings:
By: Ryan Raposo, Ferguson HS - rraposo@dadeschools.net

Commentary: Looking at the current team breakdown, Lourdes is still holding off a strong charge by a bunch of Region 1 & 2 teams and some of our preseason favorites bounced back in the past couple of weeks of competition. You can't count out Dr. Phillips or Melbourne folks. These are two squads that are very well coached and will be able to put it all together when it matters! And like always, just a handful or points and seconds will determine that giant big 6-14 group. A good day could put you right up on top and a bad day could drop you a good five places.

Team Rankings:
Team Name, Region -  (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Lourdes Academy, 4 - (1) 19:15 Team Avg, 3rd @ Flrunners ROC - Another strong performance and strong 1-7 pack, plus one of the best JV squads in the state. Two of their freshmen stepped up big time to help the Bobcats solidly beat Plant for the 2nd time this season.
2. Plant, 2 - (2) 19:40 Team Avg, 4th @ Flrunners ROC - Running strong even without their #1, Plant is still holding strong to that #2 position; but Lourdes will run away and our 3-4-5 teams will catch up if these girls don't continue progressing in the weeks to come.
3. Dr. Phillips, 2 - (10) 19:47 Team Avg, 8th @ Flrunners ROC - Back into a prime position after a strong showing at Flrunners. Don't think they're not ready to keep on jumping up! Blake is back and healthy and the rest of the squad will continue to improve with her leading the way.
4. Vero Beach, 1 - (T-4) 20:03 Team Avg, 11th @ Flrunners ROC - Holding strong to that top 5 spot, but I don't see the strong ability to jump a couple of these other tradiationally strong teams. They need to work on consistency in the weeks to come.
5. Melbourne, 1 - (9) 20:11 Team Avg, 1st @ DeLand - They've been in a few different meets over the last couple of weeks, but the only real concern is can they get a strong enough 5th girl to push their team back onto the podium once again?!
6. Spruce Creek, 1 - (7) 20:18 Team Avg, 13th @ Flrunners ROC; 20:44 @ DeLand (2nd) - Looking stronger each week and no problems taking on top 5 teams in the state. Keep working hard.
7. Boone, 2 - (T-4) 20:23 Team Avg, 15th @ Flrunners ROC
8. Hagerty, 1 - (8) 20:25 Team Avg, 16th @ Flrunners ROC
9. Mandarin, 1 - (3) 20:26 Team Avg, 6th @ Bale n' Trail; 20:27 @ DeLand (4th)

17. Killian, 4 - (18) 21:14 Team Avg, 12th @ Flrunners Invite; 21:48 @ Spanish River (4th)
18. Sunset, 4 - (16) 22:16 Team Avg, 25th @ Flrunners Invite - Without their #1
19. Cypress Bay, 3 - (20) 21:37 Team Avg, 1st @ Flrunners Open
20. Coral Reef, 4 - (21) 21:53 Team Avg, 22nd @ Flrunners Invite; 22:38 @ Spanish River (5th)

Each week there are huge shakeups in the rankings, so be weary girls. Also, this ranking has a pretty even grade distribution in the top 30 athletes. That's pretty cool to see.

1A Boys Rankings:
By: Carl Egbert : cegbert@communityschoolnaples.org

Commentary: Lots of fast stuff this past weekend at FL Runners and at Great American. Two highlights that I saw was David Kilgore emerging as the front runner in 1A after going 15:20 and  Trinity Prep as a possible NXN team. They avg 15:43/man which is just nasty. After a little research I found only 2 teams have avg sub 16/runner at the State Meet at the ranch. In 2008 Leon and Belen Jesuit both went 15:58/runner in separate races. Trinity Prep is beginning to make some noise on a National level and I really don’t see them slowing down. I think this is another great argument for keeping the State Meet in the same location. This way we can compare teams from year to year and begin to establish all time team averages and all time lists. Lots of exciting stuff coming up with Pre State just around the corner on the 16th!

4A Boys Rankings:
By: Jorge Fleitas, Columbus HS - jfleitas@columbushs.com

Team Rankings:
Team Name, Region -  (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Columbus (1) They are in great shape.
2. Colonial (2) Colonial has become the team everyone was talking about before the season even started.
3. Dr. Phillips (3) It was clear in the preseason that the Panthers had experience and the explosive runners would lead them back on the podium in Dade City. But some early sesason injuries have held them back.  It seems the healthier they get the better they may be.
4. John I Leonard (5) It seems J.I.L. senior Ryan Pickering is rewriting his school's record book, go under the 15:00 mark seemingly each week. A nice 3-4 pack put them in the hunt for a top 3 finish
5. HB Plant (4) A strong, dynamic showing by Bo Nalsen at flrunners keeps this team in a top 5 spot.
6. Winter Park (6) The Park is one of those teams that can compete and stay in for chase for a top 4 spot. Look for them to have a big push come November.
7. Chamberlain (NR) Chamberlain is right where they were this time last year; moving up into the rankings and feeling pretty good about themselves with a strong 1-2 punch
8. Vero Beach (15) A nice race for the Beach at flrunners with a “W” over Chamberlain last week leads this team to its highest ranking this season.
9. Boone (9) Boone's hopeful season is turning sour after a disapointing 13th place finish at flrunners. Look for Boone to boune back at Prestate.
10. Sarasota (NR) This was a team overlooked last week but I ranked them #6 in Preseason. Look for Sarasota to be strong come State time.
11. Hagerty (10)
12. Seminole (11)
13. St. Thomas (NR)
14. Spruce Creek (8)
15. Olympia (13)
