Gaither Goes With Georgia

Osceola senior Tynia Gaither never planned on being a Georgia Bulldog. The four-time state champion who had a top three of Florida, UGA, and FSU, said she took her to visit to Athens “on accident.”

“I didn’t really want to go but when I got up there I enjoyed the people and enjoyed the facilities and felt really comfortable there.”

Gaither is used to being a leader on her track team. The Kowboy's star wants to form her own identity and set her own standards not follow in someone else’s shoes. That was another factor in her decision to head to the peach state.

“The whole idea of being a superstar of a team and starting your own trend, being your own person, and not having to live up to expectations, I like the idea of going up there and starting my own thing.”

Gaither, ever the optimist, has high hopes for her collegiate career.

“My goals at Georgia are to win the SEC if not my freshman year then definitely my sophomore year, win NCAA’s and set all the records in the 100 and 200. I’d like to be better than Debbie Ferguson who was the star at Georgia and just take over."

She admits the Bulldogs are getting an athlete who is going to work hard and give it their all. Gaither also says she is pleased to be done with the recruiting process so she can focus on training and running the times she wants.

Those times, a blistering  11.32 in the 100 and 23.1 in the 200 meters.
