Park Vista's Brennan Out For Cross Country Season

One of the top runners in 2A will spend her cross country season on the sidelines. Park Vista junior Laurel Brennan will be out most of 2011 due to an injury she sustained over the past year.

"It happened over a period of time. I started to feel pain in my quad and automatically thought it was a strained muscle. I didn't realize how severe it was because I had been battling with sore and tight quads for the entire track and cross country season this past year. I thought it would be a quick fix, but when I heard the news I had to take the summer off I was devastated.

Brennan finished 24th at the 2A state meet last year and 10th in 2009. Despite the doctor's prognosis she hopes she can come back at some point in this season and definitely before track. The junior ran for the first time in awhile this week and says it felt great.

"My first run was amazing. One thing I have realized is how determined I am to get back into running. I totally believe I can be ready by mid season to do some road races. If I'm ready I will run. I'm going to run different road races to get the same racing experience. I will DEFINITELY run track and with this rest I will be ready to be back racing. I have a goal set for myself which is to come back stronger and more determined than I have ever been."
