Ortiz Named Gatorade Florida Girls XC Runner Of The Year

Our Warrior of the Year Olivia Ortiz can now add another title to her already impressive resume. The Lakewood Ranch junior was named the Gatorade Florida GIrls Cross Country Runner Of The Year.  Ortiz took home the individual state championship at the 3A meet and advanced to Foot Locker Nationals where she finished 19th among the nation's top runners.

In addition to athletic excellence, the award also recognizes academic achievement, and character on the course and off. Ortiz maintains a 3.63 G.P.A while being actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and several volunteer organizations.

She becomes only the third person to win the award since it was started in 2007 joining two-time winners Ashley Brasovan (2007-2008, 2008-2009) now at Duke and current Princeton freshman Kathryn Fluehr (2009-2010, 2010-2011). The national runner of the year will be announced at the end of January.
