How Sibling Runners Set Themselves Apart



We haven't played one-on-one basketball against each other in a while," says Mark Derrick, a senior at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Ill. "I used to lose to him all the time just because he was bigger than me, but now that I've grown, it should be a pretty even game."

Mark Derrick is comparing himself to his brother, Chris Derrick, who is four years older and a senior at Stanford. Chris is the former American junior 5,000m record-holder, with a PR of 13:29.98; he finished second at November's NCAA cross country championships and ran a PR of 13:19.58 at the Feb. 11 Millrose Games in New York City.
