Salute To Seniors: Alyssa Younker - Hagerty

Salute To Seniors: Alyssa Younker - Hagerty

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race was the 4x400 relay at our district meet this year. The points were so tight that in order to win the meet we had to win that race. When I received the baton for the fourth leg we were in second place and came back to win it, the race and the meet.

Who would you consider your biggest competition?

I consider Spruce Creek High School our biggest competition. Mainly because they are an amazing team with great depth. Every time we would compete it was always very close.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?

My greatest high school accomplishment was our girl’s team winning conference twice in my four years and also winning district my senior year.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. I think that overall I always worked my hardest and took advantage of every opportunity possible.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The major obstacle was balancing school with practices and meets. I am enrolled in many AP classes that consume a lot of my time.

What will you miss the most?

I will definitely miss the people; my teammates and coaches. They were a huge part in making my experience so enjoyable and memorable.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

When you find something you love, stick to it. Not only will it bring you constant happiness, but it could take you places you would have never imagined.

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?

My coach, Matt Malkovich, has played a major role in my performance and life goals. He puts just as much work and time into my track schedule as I do. From him, I have learned so many long lasting values that will be useful on and off the track. I am so grateful for his faith, support, and encouragement.

What are your college plans?

I plan to run at the University of North Florida. I am going to major in exercise science.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank the Flrunners staff for doing such a great job at keeping the entire state informed and up to date on the athletes and teams. I would like to thank my coaches along with my teammates at Hagerty for their hard work. Finally, I would like to thank my parents for their constant support and love throughout this whole journey.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Run fast, turn left!
