Salute To Seniors: Oriel Anu - Colonial

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race would have been my 10th grade year at district when I won the 300 meter hurdles. That was the first time I had ever recieved first place in any of my individual events.

What would you consider your biggest competition?

Myself. Track is 90% mental and 10% physical when it comes to the day of a meet. So making sure I didn't sike myself out was crucial.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?

Helping lead my team to become metro, district and regional champions for the first time ever. Also holding all the hurdling records at my school.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I wouldn't change a thing. I've accomplished so much and left my mark on my school and my community.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Keeping my grades up. Being a student athlete is very difficult. I had many sleepless nights doing work for my dual enrollment classes.

What will you miss the most?

My team! I'm going to miss them the most. We were like a family. They made practices so fun and enjoyable. Even on the hardest days we were always there for each other, cheering one another on. I'm going to miss that.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

While your in high school take advantage of all the opportunities granted to you. You never know where they can take you.

What are your college plans?

I'm going to FIU!

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to say thank you to my parents and my aunt for being at every meet and motivating me to keep going. Thank you to Coach Hughes who first taught me how to hurdle. And a big thank you to my coaches, teammates and friends that were a tremendous support system for me.
