Salute To Seniors: Brandon Ballard - Bartram Trail

What was your most memorable race?

That’s easy! The state 3A 4x400 race where I started off as our first leg, but the most excitement was when Nick Uruburu came back from about 25-30 meters to seal the state victory.

Who would you consider your biggest competition?

My biggest competition was probably Nick Uruburu & Marcus Taylor every day in practice.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?

The state championship of course is one, but also being named Student-Athlete of The Year of BT. We are a pretty academically prestigious school so that was an honor.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

If I could change anything it would’ve been my decision not to run track my freshman year.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The most difficult obstacle was probably running cross country this year. I was so out of shape. Not to mention I had to be on a cross country team that was State Runner-Up, so I got smoked every day in practice.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss the excitement of high school meet day and all my coaches of course.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Start early! It’s going to be hard, but it’s worth it.

What are your college plans?

To run track at FIU next year, I’m pretty excited to continue my track career at a D1 school.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

Thanks to my parents, coaches, guidance counselors, and flrunners.com for keeping me updated on my competition.
