In His Own Words: Cory Sayyeau

No big meet or far away trip this week, just a local fun meet. This week going into the race we knew our chances of performing really well against the rest of the local competition was good. Even though we were missing two of our top five we still had the same mind set to win the meet. We needed our number six and seven to step up and perform well. Costa and I (the top two guys on the team this week) didn’t really talk about a plan, but by the time the gun went off we both were on the same game plan which was going out really slow and just make our way up to the front within the first mile or so. By the first mile we were working together and sitting 1-2 and pulling away from the rest of the field. When we hit the second mile we had an Astronaut runner Drew Denson stay with us so we knew we just had to now start picking up the pace and leave him, and that’s what we did. We ended up going 1-2 and with great performances by our normal five, six, and seven runners we won the meet by three points.

Since we stayed away from a big meet this week I had to see the results pour in from the other races in time. It took a while so the anticipation was there. Michael Barr had a great race again and this time for the win .The rest of the BK team really showed they run together and will be tough in the months to come. On the other side of the state a good friend Carlos Miranda ran a great race for the win and its great to see he’s getting back from the injury in track. Of course I can't forget my HT family. They won the Jim Ryun Meet in varsity girls, guys and girls JV, while JV boys got second, so congrats to all of them!

This week the team is setting up for the Fleet Feet Invite in Stuart. I do believe Belen will be there so that will be a fun race to be in. In virtual rankings we’re ranked 2nd going into the race. Not to sure the game plan this time, but one thing I like to do is watch race footage of myself and also other runners and see what they do and how I can use that to help myself out. So the plan will revolve around something I see and I believe can try out. Well I guess that’s all for this week and I hope everyone has a great week and fun racing this weekend.
