In His Own Words: Garrett Westlake

Hey Florida runners, it’s been awhile since I have last blogged. Training has been going very well especially with the recent change in temperature. I prefer colder weather, so I’m really enjoying running right now. We had two weeks off to focus on training that led up to our district race on the 1st. The race was held in our home town of Gainesville, and started at 10:45, so I actually got to sleep in before the race. Our guy’s team placed first for the 8th year in a row and our girls took second! Joe Janson and I went 1-2 in the race with our other scoring runners finishing in the top ten.

It didn’t hit me until I was finishing the race, but it was my last district cross country race I would ever run. It was a mix of sadness and happiness because I was happy to win individually and as a team my senior year, but there is nothing like districts. It’s always been my favorite and most fun meet of the year. I’m going to miss competing in it with my team. There is just something about my team and high school cross country in general that you can’t replicate anywhere else. Although I am excited for what the future holds for me next year, it’s hard for me to think that my cross country career at P.K. Yonge will soon be over.

Next week we will have our regional meet which is also in Gainesville. We will have some tough competition and I am looking forward to it! As always I hope everyone has a safe week of training and good luck to everyone racing in their regional meets in the next week! Lastly check out this blog here: http://marmar-gofar.tumblr.com. There have been a lot of new things added since I last posted.
