Cypress Lake Senior Will Run For Florida Southern

Cypress Lake senior Bobby Ormsby will headed to another lake come the fall of 2013. Ormsby has committed to Florida Southern College in Lakeland. He finished sixth at the 3A Cross Country Finals and an impressive 35th at the Foot Locker South Regional. See why he chose the Mocs, his greatest high school memories, and his plans for the future.

What was the recruiting process like for you?

It was interesting. It's a lot to take in when you are visiting schools and talking to people, but overall it was a great experience; Thankfully, I had my dad help me though it all.

What schools did you take visits to?

I took visits to Florida Southern College and Florida Gulf Coast University.

Why did you ultimately choose Florida Southern?

I chose Florida Southern because I had went up there to visit with a closed mind and their tour changed what I thought about a smaller school. I had never really heard about Florida Southern, but when people asked what colleges I was looking at and I said Florida Southern, they all had something to say. Everything I heard about the school was nothing but good things. A few people even said they wish they had the chance to go to Florida Southern. After that I knew Florida Southern was the school for me.

How did you get along with the coaches and runners?

I got along with the coach and runners very well. Coach Ben seem a lot like my high school coach Rob Strong. My coach now always stressed to me "pick a school with the coach you like and get along with." I liked the coach at Florida Southern because he was so much like my high school coach and I felt that Coach Ben will help me become the runner and person I want to be.

What kind of runner are they getting in Bobby Ormsby?

They will be getting a hard worker who is ready to do what he needs to do to become the best runner he can possibly be as well as a leader who strives to help the people around him.

What are you looking forward to most about running in college?

A chance to be the person I want to be in life as well as pushing myself to become a better runner, and to hopefully compete at nationals in cross country and/or track.

How much of a relief was it to get it out of the way so you could focus on your senior season?

It is a huge relief to get it out of the way because the recruiting process is very tedious and sometimes leads to dead ends and it's frustrating. Now that it is out of the way I can focus on trying to go to states in the two mile.

What are some of your greatest memories from High School?

My greatest moment would have to be finishing sixth in 3A state meet after having such a horrible junior year. I had a feeling of accomplishment knowing that I went out with a bang and competed with the best in the state when everyone else thought I was done running.

It's your senior year what are your goals for this year and beyond?

Well, my first priority is to finish my high school career off right with a trip to states in track for the two mile. Then I want to focus pushing myself to become the best runner I could possibly be and help Florida Southern achieve big things. I also am going to workhard in the classroom to become a physical therapist.
