East Lake Pulls Team Sweep At 7th Annual Early Bird Invitational Andy Warrener Feb 16, 2017

The East Lake Early Bird Invitational is in its seventh season. The last two meets have been on rubber tracks. The 2016 meet moved to Clearwater High while the rubber track was being installed at East Lake. For 2017, the Eagles got to host what would be many teams' first meet of the season, on their brand new rubber track.

The Niceville girls were 10th in at the 3A state track and field championships in 2016. The Eagles cross country team won the 3A Cross Country Finals and have a very talented distance group. Coach Todd Brigman and Jamie LaFollette share the head coaching duties and gave us an in-depth preview on this year's squad.

When people hear stories about runners getting hit by cars, trucks, and buses, it usually ends with a causality or multiple casualties. But for the University of North Florida distance runner that's not the case. It was February 4th, and Manny Velasquez had just finished in 3rd place in the mile at the Camel City Invite in Winston Salem at the JDL Indoor Track, when he went to get his cool down in.


East Lake Early Bird Virtual Meet: Home Team Favored To Sweep Team Titles Todd Grasley Feb 14, 2017

Over 1,000 athletes and nearly two dozen teams will travel to East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs for the Early Bird Eagle Invitational. The meet starts at 3:00 p.m. with the field events and the track finals beginning at 4:30 p.m. Flrunners.com will be on-site with race videos, interviews, photos, recaps, results and much more. Atlantic Coast junior Cara Simpson kickstarted the 2017 season with an impressive 12.13s 100m dash. Simpson's time was the fastest of any girl this week. We merged the results from across the state to find out the 50 best performances in EVERY event and who won the weekend.

Coach Greg Barnes is fortunate to have one of the best combined boys and girls squads in the state of Florida. Last year, the boys finished the year as 2A state champions while the girls cracked the top ten, coming in 9th. The newest commit of the 2017 graduating class, comes out of Leon High School in Tallahassee, FL. Matthew Cashin, who finished 8th in 3A at the FHSAA Cross Country Finals, will be heading down I-10 to run for the University of North Florida.  We caught up with Cashin to talk about his high school career and what the future holds.
