Three of the youngest athletes at the IAAF World Championships this weekend in Beijing all hail from the Sunshine State. Kaylin Whitney and Khalifa St. Fort are both 17 and will represent the United States and Trinidad and Tobago respectively, while Trayvon Bromell just turned 20 last month. To say the future is bright for this trio is an understatement.
The Mike Gibson Summertime Run has been annual tradition at Lake Mary High School serving as a final tune up for teams around Central Florida. The meet, in its 35th year, named after the former Ram's coach, features eight area teams An open community race will start the morning at 7:30 a.m. followed by the girls (high school runners) and boys (high school runners) at 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Jenny Simpson is Central Florida's golden girl. Always humble and one of the most decorated female distance runners to come out of Florida, Simpson is training for her third trip to the World Championships. The New Balance standout won gold in the 1,500m in 2011 and missed out on another gold in 2013 by .32 seconds!
