In 2016, the Clearwater girls won their first conference championship since 1991 with a one point victory over Osceola while East Lake defeated St. Petersburg. This year, both runner-up squads are clear favorites to take home the team titles.
Osceola's number one Taylor Stone is the front runner, but will face a tough test from Palm Harbor's Julianna Lazzari. Other's in the mix include Hannah McAuliffe of Lakewood and Parker Valby of East Lake. McAuliffe, Valby, and Stone finished 2-3-4 last year.
On the boy's side, St. Petersburg has a very strong 1-3 with Bryce Burt, Matthew Wohlwend, and Dieumerci Ufitimana. James Hasell of East Lake is the defending champion , returns for his last chance to add another conference title to his resume. He beat Wohlwend by four-tenths of a second last year. Trevor Coryea of Osceola has also run under 17 minutes and could mix up the top five.
