Freshman Jordan Shapiro of Miami Palmetto lead a 1-2-3 sweep for the class of 2020. Shapiro clocked a PR time of 19:02.58 on a tough Larry & Penny Thompson Park course to win her first race of the year and first ever regional title in 4A-4. Ferguson edged out Lourdes 44-59 for the team title.
St. Thomas Aquinas junior Nicholas Rischar won his third race in a row and first regional title in his career at the 4A-4 championship in Miami with a time of 16:14.89, just shy of his personal best. The Raider boys won in dominating fashion with 26 points, a 36 second 1-5 split, and a team average of 16:41.00. Braddock edged out Ferguson for the runner-up spot by ONE point 101-102.
Mother nature tried to make her mark on the road to state by pouring down rain on runners at the 4A Region 4 Championship in South Florida. Teri Bernhardt-Rodriguez braved the elements as well to take over 500 photos of both the girls and boys race including this start of the girl's contest which saw three freshman go 1-2-3 led by individual champion Jordan Shapiro.

Bolles senior Ally Hajda is one of the top runners for a Bulldog team that has won the last four 2A Cross Country Finals and had equal success on the track. Hajda was recently named homecoming queen for the school in the midst of preparing for a fifth straight championship. North Florida correspondent Jacob Fuller shares her story.
Chaminade Madonna junior Shaun Shivers is one of the most electrifying two-sport athletes in the country. On the football field he's ranked as a four star prospect and 12th best RB in the country for the class of 2018. On the track, he owns the 8th fastest all conditions 100m time of 10.47 (2.8 m/s) fourth fastest 200m time of 21.13 by a sophomore. Recently, Shivers announced he will fulfill his dream to be a successful dual sport athlete at the Auburn University. We caught up with him to talk about the process, selecting the Tigers, succeeding in both sports, and more.

The next stop on the road to state are the regional championships. Four regionals in all four classes for a total of sixteen meets starting on Thursday and going through the weekend. We break down each class region by region using our virtual meet feature and both 2016 season bests and district results.
It's regionals week! 4A, Florida's largest cross country classification, will kick off the road to state at the regional level as athletes head to South Florida on Thursday for 4A Region 4. We preview all four regionals in addition to seeing how our virtual meets see things playing out. It's going to be a crazy ride as the top individuals and teams hope to advance to Tallahassee for the Cross Country Finals on November 5th.
Harmony sophomore Vanessa Bolen has won four out of her six races this season and finished fourth or better in the other two. This past weekend she repeated as the 3A District 8 Champion setting a new personal best time of 18:57.50, her first sub 19 mark, which was good enough to put her as the 43rd best time in her top 5,000 girls 5k times of the season.
East Lake junior James Hasell comes in at #100 on our top 5,000 boys 5k rankings after setting a new PR of 16:38.60 to win the 3A District 10 Championship. Creekside senior and UF commitment Matthew Clark still holds the state leading time of 15:14.40 when he placed 8th at Great American. The Niceville girls are undefeated this season in competition, while Pine Crest's lone loss came against our third best team, Winter Park, and without one of their top runners Simone Vreeland. Unfortunately for fans across the state, two of the top squads will not face off as the Eagles are in 3A and the Panthers in 2A. Our XC team scores show an all classes battle would give Niceville a three point advantage.
The Satellite Scorpions will try to sting the Trinity Prep Saints and end their state championship run in 2A. Don't get it twisted though a majority of Coach Butler's squad knows about the successes of the squad less than an hour to their east. The two programs are the best in the state regardless of class and the top spot on the podium could come down to their number five runners. We rank the top 25 teams according to our XC team score rankings.

4A Region 1 is called the Region Of Death for a reason. On the girl's side five of the top six times from districts that make up 4A-1 were the best of the week. Defending state champion Bailey Hertenstein posted another sub 18 minute time to take 4A District 7 with ease. Luckily, for those to the north, Hertenstein is in Region 2. On the boy's side Buchholz senior Calum McFetridge was the 4A 1 champion after finishing third in 2015, and runner-up in 2014. Ponte Vedra junior Claire Mortiz helped the Sharks take a bite out of the competition and win 3A District 4. Moritz was one of three runners on the day to run under 19 minutes (18:26.70) joining Lauren Stanford (18:34.50), and Creekside's Claire Openshaw (18:47.10). A total of 16 girls broke 19 during districts. On the boy's side, six guys broke 16 minutes led by state leader Matthew Clark of Creekside who won 3A-4 in 15:43.64.
