It was a day of a US #2 mark, 11 broken meet records, and it concluded with a throwers candy bar 4x100 relay race. The word thrilling doesn't do justice when referring to the 17th Annual Chiles Track and Field Championships, which was held at Chiles High School in Tallahassee, FL.

FSU signee Caleb Pottorff is the defending 2A state champion at 3,200m and comes into 2017 with the fastest time of any returner. His 9:11.85 at the Arcadia Invitational makes him a top contender to repeat , but he's in a loaded classification that includes five of the top ten. Freedom's Timothy Doyle had a monster sophomore season. He won his first state title in the 1,600m at a loaded 4A state meet with a time of 4:15.42 and clocked the fastest class of 2018 time in the 800m in a postseason meet running 1:53.64. He returns along with 40 others who have run sub 4:30 for the four lap event. We look at the top 100 boys in the 1,600m run for the 2017 season.

The 2016 XC season is in the books but it's never to look ahead to the top runners in 2017 which includes a group of 18 boys who have all run under 16 minutes.
Two Central Florida athletes Lake Nona's Roberto Castro and Lyman's Bryce Bell seen here side by side at the Cross Country Finals both cracked the top twenty in our junior class rankings. Joshua Collins owns the fastest time with his 15:22.30 at Foot Locker South, but it's Chiles' Michael Phillips the lone runner on the list to win an individual state title. With the cross country season over for all but a handful of runners we delve into our database to see the top 5,000 boys 5k times which includes Frostproof junior Antonio Gomez and 30 other runners under 16 minutes for the 2016 season.
Calvary Christian's Danny Ferro won the boys junior race at Foot Locker South in a time of 16:08.90. That mark would have put him as the 11th runner on Team FL in the seeded race and nearly a minute behind qualifier Charles Hicks of Bolles who ran the best time of the week, 15:07.90. Trent Mandato who decided to compete with his Trinity Prep teammates at NXNSE had the 4th fastest time at 15:25.60. We merged the results from both regionals to see who won the week.
Bolles sophomore Charles Hicks admitted he surprised himself at the Foot Locker South Regional by squeezing in the top ten and advancing to Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego with a personal best and state leading time of 15:07.50.
Florida's top individual athletes are in Charlotte, North Carolina the site of the Foot Locker South Regional. The 2016 Cross Country Finals showcased the top individual and team talent in the state of Florida. We saw upsets, freshmen phenoms, champions defend their title, and countless personal bests. Ricky Quintana delves into the state meet with a historical perspective.
Chiles junior Michael Phillips won his first 3A Cross Country Finals state championship in a time of 15:30.54 the fastest of any class of 2018 boy regardless of class. A total of seven juniors ran under 16 minutes with 24 under 16:30. We rank all the times so you can see where you stack up against your peers.
The 2A boys race was the first boys race of the 2016 Cross Country Finals and also the fastest. FSU commitment Caleb Pottorff, the 2015 runner-up, battled it out with Charles Hicks of Bolles for 5,000 meters to produce the top two times regardless of class in 15:08.12 and 15:09.13 with third place finisher Trent Mandato's 15:28.29 the third fastest. We merged the results of all four classifications to find out the fastest 500 boys times and who won the week.

On the boy's side it was a rematch of regionals as Creekside edged out Chiles for the team trophy, but the Timberwolves crowned the individual champion in junior Michael Phillips. Florida sees its fair share of freshmen talent every year and 2016 is no different. In the 3A girls race two of the state's best will be on display in Lincoln's Alyson Churchill and Mater Academy's Valerie Lastra. On the boy's side it will be yet another duel between UF commitment Matthew Clark of Creekside and Michael Phillips of Chiles. Add in Joshua Collins of Belen Jesuit and this race will be fast with major team implications on the line. Belen Jesuit has been missing from the podium the last two years and Collins can change that. The girls team battle is one-sided with Niceville, the best regardless of class, leading the way. We preview all the action of class 3A.
This week our coverage team recorded over three dozen race videos and interviews from the FLYRA Middle School State Championship as well as eight regionals! From sub 18 minute performances on the girl's side, to meet records, course records, epic finishes, and new personal bests we narrowed it down to our top ten must see races from the week.
Lincoln freshman Alyson Churchill set a new PR and FL#6 time of 17:55.80 to win the 3A Region Championship while Michael Phillips of Chiles and Matthew Clark of Creekside both dipped under 16 minutes to finish 1-2 in the boys race. On the team front, the Niceville girls placed 7 in the top 15 to win with 40 points, while the Chiles boys defeated Creekside by 9 points.
East Lake junior James Hasell comes in at #100 on our top 5,000 boys 5k rankings after setting a new PR of 16:38.60 to win the 3A District 10 Championship. Creekside senior and UF commitment Matthew Clark still holds the state leading time of 15:14.40 when he placed 8th at Great American. Lincoln freshman Alyson Churchill continued her fantastic season by winning her first district championship at the 3A-3 meet in Tallahassee. Churchill's time of 18:28.87 was more than a minute and a half faster than her nearest competitor. Matthew Cashin of Leon won the boys race while Chiles swept both team trophies. Chris Tucker was on-site and snapped over 400 photos of all the action.
Creekside senior and UF commitment Matthew Clark owns the state's top time of 15:14.40 from Great American and is one of four runners under 15:30 and 16 under 16:00. A total of 166 runners have dipped under 17 minutes this cross country season. To show the true depth of our MileSplit database we ranked the top 5,000 boys 5k times for 2016.
One week after running a personal best of 16:08.20 at the flrunners.com Invitational, Estero senior Arye Beck clocked the second fastest time of his high school career at the FSU Invitational (Pre-State). Beck's time of 16:22.80 was good enough for 11th out of 209 runners. We merged the results from EVERY meet around the state to see who won the week.
Every year the top athletes in the state preview the state meet course before titles are on the line in mid November. The best of the best fled Hurricane Matthew and headed to Apalachee Regional Park for the FSU Invitational (Pre-State) to see where they stacked up against others in their classification. Although the meet is scored as everyone combined we decided to break it down to see who the best boys in 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A were from the weekend's races.
Tallahassee avoided Hurricane Matthew and that means we were able to get stellar coverage from the 2016 FSU Invitational (Pre-State) in the state capital. Chiles junior Michael Phillips and Belen Jesuit junior Joshua Collins showed why they are two of the top boys in the class of 2018 duking it out in the elite race at Pre-State, with the hometown Timberwolve coming out on top in a FL#2 time of 15:27.80. On the girls side, Lincoln freshman Alyson Churchill continued her spectacular 2016 with the biggest win of her high school career. Team wise the Marist boys made the trip down from Georgia to defeat Chiles, while the Niceville girls proved why they are ranked number one in our Saucony Flo 50 team rankings.

The Bolles boys and Bolles girls ranked first and second respectively in our Saucony Flo 50 team rankings showed why they are two of the best in the state after both team titles against a loaded field at the Katie Caples Invitational this weekend at Bishop Kenny High School. The Bolles boys won with sophomore standout and state leader Charles Hicks paving the way in 15:49. On the girl's side, Fletcher's Kayley Delay remained undefeated dipping under 18 minutes with a FL#3 mark of 17:55.

Jacob McLeod of Georgia's Trinity Christian made the trip down south to Jacksonville and defeated the field of Floridians at the Bale -N- Trail Cross Country Original meet. Charles Hicks of Bolles and Michael Phillips of Chiles finished second and third respectively, running sub 16 times of 15:45.85 and 15:58.88, the third and fifth fastest times in the Sunshine State through week two.
Trinity Christian's Jacob Mcleod out of Georgia defeated the Florida field at the Bale -n- Trail Cross Country Original while Fletcher's Kayley Delay won the girl's race for the second year in a row. Chiles junior Michael Phillips has only been in the Sunshine State for two years, but he is already making his mark. Phillips, the son of FSU coach Kelly Phillips and new Chiles head coach Mike Phillips was the 3A state runner-up in the 1600m and helped score valuable points in the Timberwolves team title. Phillips was 7th at the Cross Country Finals as an individual and the top finisher on the runner-up team. We talked to him about his start in the sport, summer training, goals for 2016, and more!
