Miccosukee Greenway replaced by landfill course.

    I would just like to state how sad i am to see such a beautiful course disappear to the left winged hippies who live out near the Miccosukee Greenway. Running at the Edenfield greenway, in particular, is one of my favorite memories from my high school career. I am grateful of the way Coach Bob Braman acted with the Leon County Board to organize another course on the East side of town. After looking at Leon County's property and Braman's description i am pretty sure FSU's new home course will look alittle like this:

    I can't cite emperical data to back this up, but I'd put money on two assertions:
    1) The key folks opposed to races on the Greenway are in luxury SUV tax brackets, far from hippiedom. For them, it's a NIMBY issue. As in: Not In My Back Yard.
    2) Plenty of tree-hugging liberals exist among those who wish we could keep the Greenway as a race venue. In this case, US versus THEM rivals cannot be pigeonholed by political idealogy.

    In my fantasy world, we get the Greenway back. In RealityLand, big props to Brian Corbin, Judy Alexander, Bob Braman, and Scott Gowan for taking the lead among the running community that may yield us lemonade from this lemon.

    I suspect Coach Droze is right about the makeup of the "opposition party" in this case. It seems no one wants to be "inconvenienced" by having events held for those not of their community (sometimes not even then).

    Count me in as far as protecting the environment goes. It's too bad that those who really count (as far as votes go) probably don't have any idea what the environmental impact to the area really is (negligible, it appears)

    Kudos to those who have gone "above and beyond" to make cross-country in the Tallahassee area "something special" and continue to do so.

    Course looks promising and I would gladly use a former landfill area for cross in jacksonville if someone would let us use the facility. seems like a very clever idea.

    The new course is adjacent to the landfill, yes, but you'd never know it. There is no smell or even any sight of the landfill. The actual part adjacent to the course is an inactive/used/retired landfill, not the active landfill being used. It's very attractive and Brian Corbin and I are going out to work on it for the third time tomorrow. We just about have the path through the woods (3/4 mile)marked.

    Personally I think this could be a better area than the Greenway for a course and meet. And if anyone is worried about smell or anything else there is already athletic fields used for youth soccer and football located in that same area. Two years ago there was only one field and now there are three or four, so I would guess there hasn't been many if any complaints.

    Scott, Scott, will the region one cross country regionals be at this new course? Does it have any mountains like the old one had (for beach people, it was two mountains)? Would you please give us non Tallahassee people a couple of cross roads so that we can find it on mapquest. Thanks and see you at Bail and Trail(?). How about you guys coming to Bishop Kenny? That is a super competitive meet and a 100% spectator friendly course. You can stand on the top row of the football bleachers and with binos see the entire race (well, 96% of it)

    Took me a minute but I realized you are mistaking me with scottg of Chiles. I am the other scottg in Tallahassee at Florida High, with that said I am not able to answer anything about the region meet. To my understanding the new course is across from Louvinia Dr. I am just familiar with the area where the landfill is. As for the layout, Coach Braman is going to be the best person to ask and am sure we will get more details as they continue to work on the course.
