Before I bring this to FLYRA for final approval and then announce this. I want to propose to you all the 2012 qualifying standards I am thinking of for the state meet. Please give me your thoughts.
Keep in mind that, like last year, you can either qualify by hitting these standards at any meet designated as a qualifier OR by winning your event at a "regional championship" meet.
I have toughened up some of the standards here. This is a testament to both middle school track getting stronger in the state and to more people participating in our state series. The three main things I consider are...
1) How many people made the standard in last year's rankings (I target around top 35-40)
2) How many people actually came and participated in the state meet and how many made those marks there (target about 14-21 depending on the event)
3) Take into consideration that some events aren't contested very much so those may have a lower number of qualifiers (like the 3K, 200H, triple jump, pole vault). Or split between multiple events (like 1500/1600).
