Big Bend Conference Championship 2014

Meet Information

We are pleased to announce the start of the Big Bend Conference Championship. The purpose of this meet is to showcase the best athletes from the Big Bend in a championship meet with no restrictions on school size. The Big Bend Conference will consist of all high schools located in the following counties; Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, and Wakulla.

Location: The meet will be held at Mike Long Track on the campus of The Florida State University.

Entry Fees: There are no entry fees to participate. Expenses for the meet will be covered by the Gulf Winds Track Club. As a token of appreciation for funding this event, donations can be made to the Chenowith Fund of GWTC.

Registration: Registration will be through www.flrunners.com. However, please note qualifying procedures below. Registration will still be verified and does not guarantee acceptance. Registration will close Wednesday, March 27th at 8pm.

Qualifying: The top 24 athletes with verifiable marks will be accepted into the conference championship. In the event one of the top 24 does not wish to participate, that spot will go to the 25th athlete and so on until a field of 24 is filled. In the event of a tie for the final spot, the athletes 2nd best mark will be used to break the tie. All marks must be from the current outdoor season. If an athlete has not competed in an event during the season already, he or she will not be eligible for that event in the championship.

Implement and Athlete Weigh-ins: All implements and pole vault athletes must be weighed in by 10am. Implements will be collected and taken to the proper event. Any unverified implements found in use will result in an automatic disqualification from the meet for all attempts.

Non Prelim Events: The 4x800m will be run in one section of the top 16 teams. The 1600m will be 2 sections of 12 athletes. The 800m will be 3 sections of 8 athletes. The 3200m will be 1 section of 32 athletes. And the 4x400m will be 2 sections of the top 16 teams. All sections will be run in order of slow to fast.

Awards: 1st place athletes will receive a commemorative Big Bend Conference Championship t-shirt. Championship trophies will be awarded to the 1st place male and female teams. The top 3 places in each event will receive medals. A Most Outstanding Performance award will be given to the top male and female athlete in both the track and field portions of the meet. This award will be based off the highest ranked mark compared to the Milesplit database.
