Ashley Brasovan\'s Opener is One to Remember Sep 07, 2007

It isn't every day that one elite runner simply dominates another, but that happened today at the University of Florida Mountain Dew Classic.  FL South #5 Ashley Brasovan beat FL South #3 Emilie Amaro by over a minute, as Brasovan won in 17:10 over the 5k course.  Amaro is no slouch either, finishing thirteenth at Foot Locker Nationals in 2006.

Brasovan Stunning in Opener, Franklin Also Looks Great Sep 07, 2007

Some runners start their season and have some cobwebs to dust off after the summer offseason.  A couple of meets in and they're back to their old self.  And then there is Ashley Brasovan.  This little diva comes out and just tears out of the gate!  She dominated the field by over a minute today with an official time of 17:10.77 for the 5K at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational.  And it wasn't a field of slackers either... Footlocker finalist Emilie Amaro was her closest competition at 18:19.53!To really make the jaws drop, reports have it this looked more like a jog in the park for Brasovan, rather than the fastest time in the nation so far this season!  Ashley was seen laughing and talking with people on the sidelines as she cruised by.  Brasovan could easily take her game to new heights this season never seen by ANY Florida high school girl in the past.  Look out!Joseph Franklin proved he's no slouch on the grass after a record setting season in the mile this spring.  He won the boys race easily in 15:32.91.  Guillermo Echarte was second about 25 second back, followed by Eric Larsen. The boys race backed up past the chute at about 40th place, so times past that point should not be considered accurate, although everyone was kept in order so places and team scores are on target.
